    Re: ICC World Cup

So disappointing for the Windies, couldn't have ended what has been a relative step in the right direction on a worse note. I like Sammy as a leader but there are too many passengers in that side, captain included. The signs arent terrible though, Roach and Bravo are stars of the future, young Bishoo looks a talent, but Chanders and Sarwan are cooked, stick a fork in em and Gayle, for all his brilliance is and always will be hit and miss.

nah just responding to the post above which stated "we can beat the other sides bar SA if we play alright."

I don't believe that is correct.

D.Hussey in for Smith.... Good move.

Australia batting on a pitch that is expected to deteroriate quickly.... Need the openers to continue their good form.

Ponting 50* at the moment, uh-oh

Hopefully the pitch does deteriorate and our bowlers can get the job done. 270-280 might just be enough.
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

Terrific innings by Ponting on a difficult pitch.... D.Hussey doing nicely too.

I hope we can get up near 265.

Credit where it's due. He stood up when it counted.

If we lose, Ponting can at least say he lead from the front.

                Re: ICC World Cup

Probably the most satisfying one day innings ive ever seen from Ponting. I'm unashamadly a Ponting fan, hes always been a favourite of mine and every time hes walked out to bat I could hardly watch hoping he'd get out of this rut. I rode every one of those runs and couldnt have been more happy when he brought up the ton. Nice knock from Huss as well, White shouldve been the one to make way for M Hussey in the first place so it was good seeing him take the most of the opportunity. 260 is probably par and it could really go either way, the Lee V Tendulkar battle to be the key for mine.

                  Re: ICC World Cup

260- not a bad score on a pitch that looks like it will turn, will need to bowl well.

Ponting just brilliant, had no support through the middle order but D Hussey at the death was great.

I've said before I loath Ponting and think he's a terrible captain, but I respect players who can perform on the big stage and Ponting has shown numerous times he can, so in a WC he will have my support even if he looks like he's struggling.

A bit disappointing, just needed another 20 or so runs and it could have been interesting.

more to the point just needed Tait not to bowl 8 extras and generally be a clown.

Time for a clean sweep and a rebuild phase. Performance just not good enough when it counted.

Not 100% disagreeing with you - but who do you sweep out - the Captain who made a hundred, and the fast bowler that was our best bowler for the whole series.

                          Its a worry!!

Playing Tait in this tournament was a mistake.

That wicket would have suited Hastings to a tee, but he was left watching as the 'wild thing' bowled pies.

I don't really understand our stubborn-ness with this World Cup. Why do we think we can go to the sub-continent and 'Blast teams out'?. Pakistan beat us on the back of taking the pace out of the game, and primarily using slow bowlers. There was definitely a place for some more medium/slow bowling in this world cup.

Hastings should have played but apart from that the cupboard was extremely bare, McKay would've been picked over Tait I'd imagine, but apart from that theres not much else we could've done. Johnson picked up 10 wickets at 23 with an economy of 4.01 so he performed as did Lee and Krejza was pretty much the last man standing in regard to spinners.

I do agree its time to clean out though, Haddin should make way for Paine/Wade, I doubt either of the Hussey brothers will be at the next world cup so unfortunately its probably time to let both go and Lee has had a terrific swan song but its time to move on. Pontings the other one who could be cut and to be honest its probably a 50/50 call in regard to leaving out Ponting or M Hussey but we need one of them in the side just for the experience factor, I dont mind which player it is so its also goodbye to either Ponting or M Hussey from the one day team if I was a selector.
