Obviously we're going in heavy underdogs but keen to get everyone's thoughts, does anyone give us a shot at wining this series?

I really can"t see us wining the series at all. We just don't have a settled line up and the fire power with our bowlers.

We haven't lost at the Gabba since 1988, so that may account for something and get us off to a good start, but the issue in the series is trying to bowl out England twice.

Interesting that England have a few selection troubles of their own with the number 6 spot, opener, third seamer and now potentially wicket keeping position up for grabs due to form and injury. Compared to the last few series we look relatively settled.

Agree with you in regards to bowling firepower, if Harris goes down we're looking at someone like Sayers or Cutting coming in, not quite in Pattinsons' class.

We hadn't lost at Lords since 1935 until this year either.

England are vulnerable. But it will take a better team than us to knock them over. Sadly.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Not sure if we'll win the series especially given our bowling injury woes but think it'll be alot closer than most people think, Harris really is a key for us to keep fit.

I'll certainly goto one of the days at the Gabba this week, really looking forward to it, let's see how the likes of Root and Trott handle our pitches and conditions.

I wonder how close Doolan is to getting a call up?

This is the same Trott who averaged 80 last time out, Carberry and Root the weak links for mine

One of the weak links being hidden at 6 behind two guys (Cook and Trott) that we might not get out all series is scary shit man.

Is Carberry a total Butcher/Irani selection or is he actually good? All I know about him is that he wears a terrible helmet and apparently hits a big ball.

I am disappointed CA said they would not prepare the wickets to favour us. I know its unsportsmanlike, but are we the only nation in the world who are good sports.

Too old to be in the rebuild. Hughes can play test cricket, he needs a series at home on pitches he scored a heap of runs. Play him as an opener and only that. Let him settle there for a series he should score runs in, then if he still fails, then make him score 1,000 next shield season.

The way they have thrown him around is like Talia playing a few ify games down back, so they play him on ball where it just doesn't work, so they drop him again. I'm not happy with the way they have developed him.
Why rebuild? This isn't AFL. If someone is old but scoring runs they should play. Turning over our entire batting line up at once is the issue. Older guys like D Hussey, Rogers, Katich should've been picked if scoring runs.

It's test cricket. Unless the young guys are peeling off loads more runs than the older guys they shouldn't be picked. Certainly not just because they're young.

I don't see why a test cricketer needs a 10 yr international career. Why can't they have 2 or 3 if they're the best player for that period?

Bell for me, easily. I think he's got the skill, technique and temperament to be an excellent no. 3. Especially if we bouncing them and chirping every ball. I think I'd back Bell to handle it excellently, nothing against Root, but we'd think we'd have more chance of getting in Root's head.

I think it'll be Root. England will throw a kid to the wolves to protect a senior batsman.

Agree, technically he's an excellent choice. Very solid in all aspects and will counter-attack

A funny joke going around about whether England should include Zimbabwean born Gary Balance, or New Zealand born Ben Stokes.

"You'd think since South African Jonathon Trott quit after one match England would have learnt not to rely on external contractors to finish the job".
