I don’t know what we were thinking. Or what Fantasia was thinking. I think we’ve overpaid a little for Marra. But I’d rather that than go in really low and risk losing him. So in talking about Cal, at least we’ve not repeated that mistake. Sure you draw a line at a point, but treating a player like haggling over a used car was dumb.

But that’s footy with Cal. I’d say you win some, you lose some, but we give up more good players than we bring in. If Lobb gets traded off this year it’s not going to help. Cloke sacked a year early and forced to retire on the side of the road to cameras, Trengove falling out of favour super fast, Lobb playing a couple of handful of games in two years. Etc. it doesn’t scream destination club unfortunately. But it is what it is.

Fantasia should also have jumped on Harbrow earlier, but again low balled him. We were told he wanted to be closer to family, but I call bull. On his fathers side, they lived in Mooroopna (VDM Country). I know because my mother in law comes from their and knows the family. Up North his mothers side live in Cairns - about the same distance Melb to Bris as is Bris to Cairns.

Thanks for the info BT, it sounds like if we had of come close to the offer maybe he would have stayed. For mine, if we did that it would have completely disenfranchised the other players and caused more problems than it was worth.
Fantasia lost his job I believe off the back of this. Maybe they go for Griffen early and then there’s no Tom Boyd and premiership. It all worked out I guess. It’s moot now I guess. With Tassie coming up, I’m certain the club won’t be lowballing great young talent agsin though. We’ve given up Harbrow, Ward & Reid to expansion and later Griffen (c). I’d like to think we’ve done our part for AFEL expansion.

Harbrow was so disappointing. Fantasia was a mess. Then we used the compo on Justin Sherman. It’s such a bad chapter in our history book.

Gawd Justin Sherman - that tattoo should've been warning enough.

I couldn't stand that guy. I remember getting angry when he kicked a goal one game. Could have just hit it on the run but made sure to put some mustard on it got himself in trouble but kicked it anyway. I was furious and everyone around me at the game though I was nuts.

Just after I google search the picks used on Lobb like HD suggested I do. Be right back.

It's a bit complicated and there were issues with Eades and Fantasia ability to work together. Their relationship had soured.
We initially made a low-ball offer which was rejected by Wards management and after a few weeks with no response from the club Ward let Eade know of the impasse. By the time we came back with a vastly superior and revised offer GWS had weighed in with their mega offer.

He also knocked back a solid 2nd rounder for Josh Hill, openly stating he expected a 1st round pick for him. Of course 12 months later he went to West Coast for a fire sale pick in the 60's

He went to the George Costanza school of negotiating.
