I'm of ethnic stock myself but not sure how that's relevant or lends any further merit to someone's view.

There isn't a simple answer. It's highly personal and up to the priorities of the individual.

What I'd say though is that when an Australian's apparently sacrosanct right to viciously and anonymously deride a black man doing his job - whatever their motivation - trumps all other considerations in this matter - because god knows to curb that right makes THEM the real victims here - it says something pretty unflattering to me about our national psyche in 2015.

Of course people have have every right to carry on like mindless, malicious effwits. Nobody can stop them.

Whether that's a particularly noble expression of their devout sense of democratic freedom is pretty clear I'd think.

Wait a minute. How is throwing invisible spears at a crowd doing his job? We need someone like Adam. We need his passion, and interest in remote communities. But that gesture, done in the way he is doing it is different to just playing footy. If he's going to do it then why not put him on stage before the game with music, and a speech, and make it a celebration for everyone, not just a means of sticking it to opponents when they are losing.

While disagree with you, I do respect you having considered reasoning so sorry to highlight part I have a real issue. However, I really don't like the 'divisive' label. I would rather someone stand up when something is wrong and divide the public rather than continuing wrong practices just to be united.

Thinking Indigenous Australians should be allowed to vote was once considered a divisive view, women having anywhere near equal rights, a whole list of things most of us see as just plain old fair now. Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King were pretty divisive (not comparing them to Goodes, just I think the term is a load of crap).

Fair enough. I just don't think his dance thing really helps fans empathize. But hey, it gets people talking. give it time, and presented in the right way, it could become a feature of the game.

I don't love the gesture (or dislike) and think there would be more ideal (and far worse) ways to deal with it. However, I am not going to judge someone for dealing with such ugliness in a manner that is not what I consider the most ideal.

Some found it a provocative act. Others found it poetic in the broader scheme of things.

Ultimately, the bile directed at Goodes has become so atrocious that an undisputed champion of our game has taken leave of absence, may actually walk away from it altogether and simultaneously lent succour to cretins like Andrew Bolt and Alan Jones who cant lather themselves thickly enough with it.

                Be proud Australia.

That's all well and good, but others have differing opinions, and that should be OK, not presumptuously labeled 'racist' (not by you, but by many).

Wait a minute. You said he is just booed for doing his job. I agree, the scorn is out of proportion, disgusting in Perth. But, how was his so called war dance, which is an invention, not a dance belonging to any tribe, just doing his job?

I didn't say he'd been abused for doing his job, but while doing his job. Relentlessly.

I also fail to comprehend why whether the dance is an 'invention' or not is a salient factor in any of this, or remotely justifies the deplorable juncture we've reached.

Agree. All dances, all art, all drama, everything has been invented or devised at some stage. Goodes was straight up with the provenance to the flying boomerangs inventing it a couple of weeks before he performed it. It's not like he tried to claim it was from the Dreaming or anything.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

A perfect example of this is the "Kapa O Pango" haka that the all blacks do pre game.

It was first written in 2005, specifically for the All Blacks, but it is no less significant in terms of culture and significance.
