Pre game, as you mentioned. Not directed at opposition fans.
It's done as a group, with non maoris participating. It adds to the build up of the match and has nationalistic symbolism. It's not designed for individuals to do it by themselves, to push one individual's agenda, on a whim, in order to rub the flow of play in fan's faces. Fiji, Tonga, and other Pacific nations have a similar long standing tradition. Quite classy actually, love it.

If he's going to do it then why not put him on stage before the game with music, and a speech, and make it a celebration for everyone, not just a means of sticking it to opponents when they are losing.
He did it because he was being booed by Carlton supporters for no good reason. He was showing his pride in who he is and protesting what he saw as racist treatment of himself.

Why would you stage manage a protest with music? That's the most bizarre thing I've ever heard. Can you imagine the carry on if Adam Goodes got a music accompaniment to a protest dance before a game? Australia would go into meltdown.

let's be honest, there are knobs (James hired for example) and then there are knobs.
I'm 100% behind Adam and what he is trying to do, and no question he has come under unfair criticism, but at times to me at least he has acted like a knob.

The Collingwood girl for example, I think it could have been handled in a different way which would have not only brought the issue to light in a positive way, but naming and shaming a minor is something a knob would do.

I understand heat of the moment and what she said was reprehensible, but it could have really been turned into a positive, which it wasn't.

Again to be crystal clear, I'm behind Adam and think he is incredibly resilient and driven in removing the blight on our society that is racism.

That's the first time I have heard that as the reasoning behind his dance

Not what Adam said after the game. He was asked why he did it, and claimed he was just representing. Not in response to anything.
Bizarre? Why? If it's a dance, add music. I think people would love it. Jetta, Long, Goodes, all performing together. Why would that be bizarre? Inspire people, give it the respect it deserves.

It was pretty clear, irrespective of what he said, he did the dance as a protest.

Adam Goodes interrogated her all night, then went over to her house with a camera and interviewed her so she could go on the news.

                          Re: Booing Adam Goodes.

I know a lot of the knockers of Adam use his reporting of the young lady as their catalyst for their hate but we are all actually encouraged to report to security when there are racial acts. Age should not be barrier and to turn a blind eye is a weak act.

It's not his fault she had no parental supervision on the night. The media turned it up into a vastly bigger issue than it needed to be and Adam had nowhere to go but explain why there is a gap in the understanding of the racial comments that are being made to people.

I get that he infuriates some people but to boo him on every possession in a game week after week is just nonsense.
The club and captain have made strong statements in the last week and I support that 100%.

                            Re: Booing Adam Goodes.

Adding to what GVGjr said... Even if you disagree with Goodes pointing the girl out to security, how sure are you you'd react better under the same circumstances? It's easy to sit back and say what he should have done after weighing up to options and thinking though the full impact of every possible way it could affect different people but in the heat of the moment I'd say Goodes handled it as well as can be expected.

Also take note that after the match he specifically said he didn't blame her and asked for people to support her and talked to her over the phone and congratulated her response publicly.

I mean what else can people ask of him? Should he go on TV, profusely apologise and commit Seppuku out of shame?

It's entirely at Adam's discretion how he would like to perform the dance. A lot of this comes down to respecting the autonomy of the minority culture. It's not up to you to determine or judge the significance of the dance, or how Goodes feels about Australia Day, or how offensive the booing directed at him is. Just listen.
