Re: MRP thread 2017
Not really, I'm not sure what the MRP can really do as their hands are tied by the guidelines.
They assessed it as intentional low impact contact to the body. They could hardly assess it as medium impact.
The AFL needs to change the rules if they want these punching incidents to attract suspensions.
The AFL through Lethlean responded in the week prior that the stomach punch was unsightly and wanted it removed from the game but gave little to the MRP within the classification to respond to. Bartel, who sits on the panel, said as much during his media commitments throughout the round.
Unless a Club in its post game medical assessment states that there was a degree of severity to the impact of the hit, unlikely, it's going to be a very subjective assessment between what is a low and medium impact when it comes to a whack in the guts.
It's back to the AFL to do what it should've done in the first instance, that is to establish clear criteria to make an assessment of penalty rather than to just provide commentary on how bad it might look.
It's a similar circumstance with what the AFL have done with implementing contentious rule changes of such a subjective nature, such as with deliberate behinds or deliberate out of bounds. It has put so much pressure and heat on the umpiring fraternity where they are having to make critical decisions within a milli-second because the league demands a more attacking / fast flowing game regardless of the look to our game.
Personally, the game is barely resembling what I was taught from a youngster, where the ball player was protected and rewarded. Now the player in the most damaging position is often the player that is coming in from behind, where they have honed their craft of immediately (& dangerously) pinning an arm to claim a holding the ball, or as with Josh Green or Picken pulling back from an offensive charge with the chance that the leading player (Short / Mills) under pressure might push the ball through for a favourable subjective assessment of 'deliberate'.
I would prefer that the player good enough to win the ball have the option of disposing of the ball in a manner that he deems best for his Team, whether that's for an offensive play or as with these so called unsightly 'deliberate' defensive actions, enable his Team to reset and setup play for their advantage.Comment

Stringer sanctioned
Western Bulldogs forward Jake Stringer has accepted a $1500 sanction for wrestling with Melbourne’s Neville Jetta during Sunday’s loss to the Demons.
Jetta has also been fined $1500 for the second quarter incident.
The pair are one of a number of players who have been cited by the Match Review Panel after round 13, with all players accepting the sanctions offered by the MRP.
).
The umpires should have shut this down early by warning players and giving an immediate 50 metre penalty for continually harassing a player away from the general play. They lost control in the 2nd quarterFFC: Established 1883

Re: MRP thread 2017
The MRP have again showed that they play favourites.
How could anybody watched the replay of the Selwood elbow to Mitchell and not deem it intentional?
It was worse than the incident that got Jack Redpath rubbed out for a week last year.
Selwood has got the Fyfe/Judd treatment that was never available to Chris Grant.
IT IS A DISGRACE!!!!Life is to be Enjoyed not EnduredComment

Re: MRP thread 2017
Great BS tactics by Melbourne, just push and shove knowing you won't be smacked in the mouth for being a prick. (although Bugg left the field with blood flowing from his eye - good on you Wood).

I'm praying we run into them again this year. I really am.Comment

Re: MRP thread 2017
That was an umpire decision - Wood was retaliating to dickhead Bugg's go at him from behind - gutless wonder. There should not have been a second shot at goalFFC: Established 1883

Will Scofield has been offered a week for the hit on Clayton Oliver ... You are kidding me !!! The elbow didn't even connect !! Oliver took the biggest dive since Greg Louganis in the 1984 olympics. The MRP is a joke !!Comment

Re: MRP thread 2017
Wow. That's probably the worst MRP decision in history. There was daylight between Schofield's elbow and Oliver's chin. Not only was Oliver acting it was terrible actually at that. He should cop a week for the bad acting!!They've done studies you know, 60% of the time, it works every time!
