Tyler Young has hardly played AFL football at the age of 27, Serong is more a 3rd key, May, McGovern, Frost are horrible options👍 2Comment

I can’t name one KPD that would come in and take the #1 option every week, that is currently available. Butts is probably the only one, but it makes zero sense for him to move, a year out from free agency after hardly playing.

We haven't planned well. This has been years in the making. We failed at it last year too.
There are plenty of A grade KPD's in the comp, unfortunately we've been remiss over several years and not gone hard enough, prioritised early enough to ensure we're not in this position again, Liam Jones has succumbed to Father Time and we have no-one of his quality to replace him.
We can't just keep blaming the comp.
We've been cobbling together backlines since 2021. Not good enough.
We don't have an experienced KPD anchor FB that provides enough for the young guys to develop around, and it is our fault.
Unless the kennel has an A grade KPD up its sleeve we don't yet know about? I'd be content if thats the case.Comment

Jordon Butts is expected to remain at Adelaide in 2026. North Melbourne & the Western Bulldogs considered the key defender but not planning to pursue him ahead of his free agency season

If nothing is standing out, I can see us leaving a spot open and having some key defenders trial to see if we can find a diamond in the rough. Beats getting someone we know isn’t an improvement on GardnerComment

I said 'few available' and agree May, McGovern and Frost are break glass only. Derksen is worth a go for peanuts.

Crows: Murray, Keane, Butts
Lions: Andrews, Payne, Gardiner
Blues: Weitering
Pies: Moore, Frampton
Dons: McKay
Freo: Pearce, Cox
Cats: SDK
Suns: Collins, Ballard, J. Graham, Adams
GWS: Taylor, Buckley
Hawks: Barrass
Dees: Lever, May, McDonald
North: Pink, Comben
Port: Aliir, BZT
Tigers: Miller, Young, Balta
Saints: Howard, Caminiti
Swans: Melican, McCartin
Eagles: H. Edwards
it goes from the absolute A graders, and captains of their club, to players we wouldn’t touch (Pink etc.) and for most, they only have 2 guys on their list.
we need to work it out with structure, Cats do it with Jack Henry, Stewart, O’Sullivan & Blicavs. SDK probably isn’t even quite that type.
i have no doubt that Jones letting Father Time catch up royally screwed us this season.👍 2Comment

They literally all do it . Trade period is really content period behind closed doors and there is no way it should run for more then a few days. 80% of the big moves get done on the last day. I swear it's an AFL deal with the media companies to give them something to talk about for a couple weeks. Regan certainly did his best Power impression.
Maybe everything happens late because it takes a week to do all the discussions and by then you're up to the deadline and just need to make it happen. Maybe extra time allows more complicated deals (like us theoretically collecting top 10 picks to use on Butters).
Also allows extra time to convince players to come across/condider a life changing decision. Say Butters deal is a possibility, and Port declare Freijah is the guy they need to make it happen, it'd be tough for him to go from holiday mode to having to make a decision like that within a few days (and discussing with his gf, meet with Port, suss out Adelaide etc) because we have arbitrarily decided it only needs to be a week.I should leave it alone but you're not right👍 1Comment
