Out of contract this year so GWS won't be able to demand the world (we have a little experience in these situations).

I have a hunch he ends up at St Kilda.

I agree with soupman, I don't think he is worth the money he is asking for

Not sure he's demanded anything - the $700k is what the Saints were reportedly offering him to ask for a trade last year. Everybody knows they throw cash around like a drunken sailor (TDK $1.7 million) to try and lure players. Aleer decided he wanted to stay and fight for his spot and GWS have tried to squeeze him in when they can - but it's tough with Taylor, Buckley and Himmelberg down back already. He would be crazy to knock that back this time around.

Personally I haven't seen enough of him to judge what he's worth.

I like Aleer but he seems more of what we’ve got, can he compete one on one and wrestle with the big guys? Don’t really think so and I just don’t think we need another 2nd or 3rd tall until Lobb starts winding down. For mine he plays the same role as JOD currently and we have that sorted

Yeah I think our issue is we don't have a good reliable defender who can anchor the defence.

Aleer would just be our third maybe for the role, without actually giving us a solution.
I should leave it alone but you're not right

Okay, so he is not as big as I thought. More a D2 or D3 you lads are saying, fair enough then.
We don't need more of that.

Amazing athlete, from what I've seen his kicking can be a bit 'heart in mouth'.

                I don't think we're in the hunt.

A tall midfielder who at state level has been incredible, hasn't been given the opportunities as a mid at AFL but has had some impressive performances. Not sure what we plan to do with him though, considering he came in as an accumulator who was able to hit the scoreboard, and has failed to do either at AFL level makes me a bit worried. However anything under a 1st rounder and it is a low-risk high reward situation because if there is one thing about the Doggies, it is our ability to make any midfielder look good.

Erasmus is in this week so we'd get a good look at him at AFL level

He does the same thing at both levels.

#1: He doesn't really win the ball.
#2: He almost refuses to kick the ball.

I simply don't get the "been incredible at state level" comments...yes, he won the medal in the GF last year but anyone with eyes who watched the game could tell you than Nathan O'Driscoll was by far the more impactful player....YES - Erasmus got the footy, but he was at best 1:1 kick to handball and just doesn't hurt the oppo.

                          Anyway...

Seems like the journo is just spitballing

DEE CONTRACT SAGA TO ROLL ON

Judd McVee’s contract impasse will likely drift to round 24 as he considers his future in the fallout from the Demons Marvel Stadium disaster.

As the Herald Sun revealed this month, he is putting off signing a new deal yet despite having a contract in front of him for the full season.

McVee hasn’t yet decided to leave but has delayed that signing as he considers if he could play a role elsewhere as a more aggressive defender higher up the ground.

Despite speculation the Demons have not made any moves to consider the trade value of Jake Lever, with coach Simon Goodwin adamant he will fulfil his contract.

He would be a perfect fit for a club like the Dogs in the premiership window with a need for another quality key defender.

Melbourne has no current suitors for Clayton Oliver, who has some interest in a fresh start, given his hefty wage bill.

So unless something extraordinary happens with him taking a massive pay cut it seems like he is destined to stay at Melbourne next year.

Would gladly give McVee a bunch of money. Stern defender and an excellent user, and can play in that position we’ve been trying to manufacture guys into all year. Won’t happen though.
