I hate that I'm so invested in trade period every year. They've got me hooked. And nothing ever happens really

North Melbourne won’t be pursuing Leek Aleer.

The Roos have considered a move for him after St Kilda pulled out, but won’t be going any further.

Aleer expected now to stay at GWS on the three-year offer the club has made for him

Hawks now want to stump up for Merrett and from my perspective, and even though I don't like the Hawks to be successful, this is a good offer and Essendon should take it if they think Hustwaite can play senior football with them

Hawthorn has offered a deal to Essendon for Zach Merrett. Pick 9, a future first, a second rounder this year or next and Henry Hustwaite.

It sounds like outside of Silvagni, and a pot shot at Wilkie once that fell through, and Butts who was deemed too expensive at a first round price, we didn't really have any key defensive targets. Not really shaking any trees to see what comes loose. Even those first two aren't exactly your main key defender types. If this is correct, it's hard not to be a bit disappointed that we aren't doing more. Are we worried about having to potentially spend future picks when we are dead set on Butters next year?

I would say Wilkie was the very definition of shaking the tree to see what comes loose. Elite defender, durable, under contract for 2 more years and about to be anointed the next captain of his current club. We were aggressive and very ambitious with an elite opposition target in an area of need.

Despite today's Collingwood-Brisbane pick swap, trades for Jai Serong and Jack Buller are stuck in the mud as things stand. Swans have offered Hawthorn pick 63 for Serong, while they had also asked Collingwood for Melbourne's F3 (Mihocek deal) for Buller. Neither Hawks nor Pies coming at that at the moment.

Like what the actual **** are you expecting here?

We shake the tree, and Sam Taylor or Harris Andrews comes loose?

Whose asking for Andrews or Taylor lol, how about just a competent defender?

What we can’t expect the club to put plans in place to plug holes in the list? Whether we tried hard or not the facts are we’re potentially going into a season with 4 key defenders on the list of Lobb, JOD, Buss and Gardner. All of a sudden we have this confidence in Buss when he couldn’t even get a look in before Gardner early in the year?

We banked on a 34yo Jones not declining, even Lobb was a random free hit that wasn’t planned for in defence. Is that not mismanagement, across several offseasons?

Outside of key defenders we went into last year with Bramble & JJ still relied on in defence and this year we’ve picked up Budarick sure but it’s hardly doing much to fill the gaping holes we have behind the ball, of all shapes & sizes.

Then in the front half of the ground we’ve been going into seasons with VDM & MCneil key parts of the offence, surely we could have found a replacement in 3 years? It’s an extremely important part of the field that we’ve neglected.

Again no one’s asking for stars, just improve the 22 and we’re categorically not doing that. All well and good to “try” but you don’t get points for trying. Is it really asking to much to expect the list manager to improve the list?

Melbourne has an interest in Changkuoth Jiath and he has agreed to be traded. A trade needs to be sorted

Have we had a swing at anyone besides Wilkie?

Seems we put all our eggs in that basket.

Hopefully with some decent draft capital falling out after them so we don't cook any chance of having something to spend on Butters next year.........
