Watching again last night one of our achilles heel is quality in defence in the big moments adding a player like Bergman would be perfect for this group. Adz and Libba are close to the end also I can see some scope for midfield minutes I reckon he would be the perfect get.

With Jones and Lobb in their 30's and we don't know about Busslinger. Gardner won't make it, so we do look thin on tall defenders.

Yep agree but we might already have one on the list.....a big if but if you add Marra to that forward line and Cody de we really need to invest that heavily in the forward half of the ground?

agree-I love butters but if I had to choose based on pressing needs it would be Ingrid. (Hope some of you are old movie buffs).

JOD is already there - Busslinger, Walker, Will Darcy, Croft. Just need one of that quartet to take their opportunities in coming years.

Key defence may need some focus but probably not in the short term. Lobb is aging backwards so it won’t be a priority for at least 2 years IMO, in that time I’d like to be giving Buss a chance and as mentioned above there’s a few potential talls on or coming to the list in Walker, Darcy, Croft etc. if next year Buss is gone or not coming on then we can start to turn our attention to what’s available.

I still think our biggest needs are small defenders & forward. In defence I’d love a lightning quick JJ replacement, someone that compliments the likes of Dale/Williams’ footskills with raw line breaking pace. Peak JJ was just such a game breaker, when you partner that sort of player with an elite kicker who opens the game up by foot - it becomes really really difficult to lock down on both.

Would also like a more defensively minded Doc replacement but I don’t necessarily think this is the type of player you spend big on.

A McNeil replacement is crucial, really like the sounds of us going hard at Zac Bailey - realistically he’d be worth more to us than Brissy when they’ve got other quality similar position players, looking at guys like Allen and need money for the Ashcrofts etc. not that they obviously wouldn’t keep him, just feel like with our list make up we could afford to pay him more than them.

McNeil replaced with Bailey would be one of the biggest upgrades in the league, position for position wise and impact on our side. He’d be my number 1 target, probably even before Butters.

In saying that though maybe small forward won’t be as crucial next year with Cody back and El-Souki looking like a genuine prospect - if he comes on that would be huge for us, the exact type of player we’re crying out for down there. West, Cody, Bailey with El-Souki coming through would be an absolutely elite small forward group, one of the more important positions on the field right now.

with Red, Sanders & Freijah and even Hynes looking as good as they do Butters isn’t necessarily crucial but **** a couple of years of Bont, Butters & Red in the middle with Darcy forward. Wed just have to be close to a lock for a flag. If that opportunity arises you jump
                  at it.

Power star set to turn down monster Victorian offers

Miles Bergman is set to stay in South Australia on a new deal that will take him through to free agency

PORT Adelaide is on the cusp of a significant win, with Power star Miles Bergman set to remain at the club.

Bergman has been hunted from multiple suitors in Victoria as he has strongly weighed a return to his home state, with the Western Bulldogs, Essendon, Melbourne, St Kilda and Geelong all in the mix for the 23-year-old.

The indications as recently as a month ago were that he was set to return to Victoria, however AFL.com.au can reveal that Bergman is now set to sign a lucrative two-year deal that would take him to free agency at the end of 2027.

Bergman has always been highly rated internally at Port Adelaide for his bravery, versatility and athleticism, and coach Ken Hinkley told AFL.com.au on the eve of this season that the former No.14 pick had joined the club's 'Big Three' – Zak Butters, Connor Rozee and Jason Horne-Francis – as being their most important players.

But he has taken that a step further this season, with his move into the midfield showing his star quality. He was best afield against Carlton last week with 25 disposals, two goals and five clearances matched up against Blues captain Patrick Cripps.

He is due to play his 100th game in two weeks.
