    Re: The Chad Thread

Interesting segment on the trade show on Ch9 about 30 minutes ago. You can view clip on Twitter, the afl footy show account.

    (Essentially said: )

Barrett: Wingard's statement (on Instagram a few days ago) is a 'woe is me' statement at the media and also the club (Port).

Kane Cornes: The club (Port) are not happy with this statement at all. Honestly I don't see how he can go back to Port now. He's obviously not happy. At this stage it's 50/50 between staying or going to the Western Bulldogs. The dogs have made a big offer and he may leave for the money. The feedback at his post season review was not flattering (ie such that they would match our money going ahead).

    ...........

Jungle drums beating from Port side of things today, Cornes, Kochie and list manager. Let alone Sam Power.

But if Wingard wants out its not because of their shit coaching and game style, shambolic recruiting etc. It's Wingard being petulant and wanting more money. Here's your narrative from Port already. One feels things are getting closer to the smoke turning into fire.

      Re: The Chad Thread

I wonder what Hinkley wasn't happy about about with Wingard? I cant wait to hear if his intentions to come to us have some validity.

We need talented players but it's intriguing why an exit interview for someone finishing top 6 of their best and fairest didn't go well for the player

Sounds to me like a PR line. If they bring in the conga line of well known nothing's to not much last year, and lose Polec & Wingard, the Port fans will get the pitchforks and march down the mall. It smacks of blame the others in the convo. The dogs offering too much money and Wingard can't take criticism, so these are the bad guys.

Having watched the clip, I'm starting to think this thing might be on and be on sooner rather than later. If Wingard really doesn't like critism in the public space from Port people, I think having to see this clip of Cornes casting all sorts aspersions on him might just draw a reaction from Wingard needing to correct the public record and take a great offer from us.

Happy to have Chad at the club if all we have to do is pay him a bit more than Port.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

Fox News take on the above:

PORT Adelaide great Kane Cornes says he can’t see gun forward Chad Wingard playing for the Power next year after his somewhat cryptic statement left the club fuming.

While Wingard is contracted to the Power for another year, his future remains a mystery after he released a statement via Instagram last week indicating he would talk publicly when the time is right.

The Western Bulldogs have confirmed they are interested in recruiting the two-time All-Australian, but it remains unclear whether Wingard wants to leave the Power.

“You’ll hear my side of the story when the time is right dw (don’t worry) about that,” Wingard posted on Instagram.

“But unless a statement comes from me or my management don’t listen to them. “Thank you for all the support over the last couple of week it means a lot.”

Journalist Damien Barrett said Wingard’s statement was a “veiled reference” to both the media and the Power.

“That is a ‘woe is me’ type of outlook from a player who should be better than that and should be embracing the situation he has put himself into where his future at the club he was meant to be a star at for the rest of his life is now being played out publicly,” Barrett told Channel 9’s The Trade Table.

Cornes said it would be difficult for Wingard to remain at the Power.

“I can tell you that the club’s not happy with that statement — they’re furious with that,” Cornes told The Trade Table.

“I just can’t see the fact where he now stays there. If you’ve got Chad Wingard not happy with the footy club and the club not happy with Wingard for that statement, it is almost to the point where I’m not sure he can go back.

The Power on Monday said Wingard hadn’t informed them that he wanted to be traded.

“The reality is, right now, nothing has compelled Chad to suggest he doesn’t want to be at Port Adelaide, as it stands,” said Power football manager Chris Davies.

“From our end, we’d only need to know if he wasn’t planning on being with us.”

But Cornes said Wingard “pretty split” between the Power and the Bulldogs.

“There’s a serious offer from the Bulldogs,” Cornes said.

“Chad Wingard has a decision to make. Port Adelaide’s belief is that if he does leave, it will be a decision based on money and also the fact was not shown a lot of love in his exit meeting with Ken Hinkley at the end of the season.”

              Re: The Chad Thread

Aside from the fact that Chad finished 6th in the B&F, this has a Stringer like stink to it. Not quite as pungent, but the same vague smell.....a tough and challenging end of season review; a marker laid down as to the standard expected; some petulance and rumblings through social media; a number of club becoming more and more interested, but then mysteriously not being interested; one remaining club offering a way out.

The only difference is that we haven't offered a 3rd round pick for a player of his caliber.

Hinkley has a reputation for bottling things up and then flying off the handle at inappropriate times. He doesn't have a thing in his head that says "this isn't the right thing to do/this is the wrong time to be doing that" (I am a bit similiar.) It wouldn't suprise me if Hinkley said some things that he know regrets or he shouldn't have said at the exit interview.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

So The Age reported our offer to Port only entails a future 1st rounder?
Is that just an opening ambit claim or is Sam Power seriously of the mind that can be done?

I don't believe we are talking about the same sort of situation as Stringer. I think Chad has been unhappy for some time and I think it is more to do how he is being utilised on the field.

They'll probably call our bluff on him re. waiting until next year to get him but it's all about pride, something we haven't shown a lot of as a club with past trades. Sam isn't appearing desperate and that's good for our brand and Chad's desire to get to us. He's worth pick 7 this year and if he wants to come I believe we'll offer it up. I like the way Sam is rolling I'm already feeling we are in pretty good hands.
