Lobb kicked 36 goals this year and spent decent minutes in the ruck. If you add 36 goals to a player in our team this year with an ability to chop Tim out in the ruck (as opposed to a Cordy or Bruce), he's already making a significnat contribution above and beyond what we have.

I think its unequivocal they make us better I'm just not sure by how much.
    Fair enough good take.

Not sure Jones was elite, I recall Tom McDonald ripping him a new one and 18 months out of the game is big.

Lobb I still don't think is coming but I must be naive

Hunter can be frustrating sometimes with his ball use but has been a two way consistent player for a long time. I think on field we are going to miss him if it's true, we have struggled to fill the wing position.
It has nothing to do with on field play, everything to do with off field issues.

Just listening to Colin Young talking about Logue and Lobb.

He's confident that Logue will be traded and very non committal about Lobb.

        My take:
I think the deal for for Lobb will get done but if the Grundy to Melbourne deal falls over I could also see Lobb going to the Dees.

If that’s the situation, then we should table an offer to Grundy as well to make sure he’s traded. The result of which is landing either Grundy or Lobb. Force the situation with some proactivity.

How come? Don't get me wrong the move makes sense on paper and also somewhat strengthens Melbourne in the here and now (a second competent key forward and more ruck time for Gawn is probably good) but are the Dees a better trade partner for Freo? Does it become part of the Jackson deal?

I've talked to a number of Melbourne supporters who don't think the Grundy scenario is a good fit for them as they need a forward.
Fremantle will move heaven and earth to get Jackson and if Lobb is requested by Melbourne it will quickly change their current no trade stance. Just a hunch.

How much bad blood is there between the two clubs?
Jesse Hogan is still in recent memory. There's every chance Port have a red hot crack at Kosi as well who loves the Demons but hates the city, they did have Dunkley money available.

Yeah absolutely makes sense. If he wants out and you can reduce your draft burden on what you need to pay Melbourne it's a decent move for Freo. Likewise Melbourne know Lobb has a house and might be more committed to Melbourne (the city) than the Bulldogs.

Two first rounders and Lobb (maybe swaps too) isn’t the worst outcome for Melbourne.

But I don’t want us sitting around if that happens. Plan B better be good if Lobb as Plan A doesn’t materialise.

We need to stitch up a ruck. We can't go into next year with just Sweet and Martin. Martin is cooked, and Sweet is a backup.

I wonder if we are thinking of Darcy to do the Lobb role if we don't get Lobb, ie as a backup ruck.

A 19 beanpole in the ruck, who could be anything... Please no for his sake and ours.

If Lobb is to be traded but to Melbourne as I say, then go hard at Grundy and make Melbourne & Freo have to make decisions. I think Grundy is good as at Melbourne but we clearly need a ruck. If Lobb was identified and won’t happen, then the other candidate is Grundy. Even if that forces the Grundy trade, that should improve the Lobb trade to us. Clearly we need many ‘plans’ if Lobb to Melbourne is a thing.

This is the same challenge we had 12 months ago. Backing Martin and given Lewis Young was preferred to Sweet late in the season was a poor plan to back up a GF spot.

Hopefully they will be a bit more proactive this trade/draft period.
