Re: Early Trade Rumours 2023
That's okay as Brisbane would have wanted more than he's really worth. It's hard to gauge where he really is as a player given Brisbane's strength with those mid sized forwards who also have a run in the midfield.
We've had two goes at bringing him in so it's not meant to be.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

What’s left in the public domain now? Coffield who hasn’t played in two years? Croft awaiting a sit down with club to see where he fits in before nominating. Basically it sounds/feels like if he coach and this playing group can’t turn it around next year we are in trouble because the reinforcements aren’t coming.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Re: Early Trade Rumours 2023
With the way we’ve finished the year and a heap of vacancies in important roles, I imagine it’s hard to pitch a compelling reason to leave…

We really need to hit the draft. It's our only way of getting decent players in the door.Comment

Re: Early Trade Rumours 2023
Yeah if next year pans out like this year we're in strife. I think we've been too slow to react for a while now and that train is roaring straight at the club at 300kmh. The only saviour now is a richmond/Geelong esque turnaround ala 2017/2007.
We really need to hit the draft. It's our only way of getting decent players in the door.
Our strategy looks like pay $1M+ to Bonts, Tim, Naughton and then say $700,000 or so to Lobb, JUH, Macrae, Smith & Adz. Then whatever scraps we have left cover Libba, L. Jones, Daniel. Then with our scraps try to put together a team of bargain basement players and hope they don’t get exposed (see McNeil, Baker, VDM, Poulter and old guys getting super top ups like Keath & Duryea).
If this is the strategy, they all need to fire all the time. Which they can’t. It’s kind of weird our club would throw a million at a ruckman (any one), a million for a KPD that has kicking issues and doesn’t return the bags of goals like a Curnow or Larkey, and huge money at a midfield which creates (I guess) a pressure to play in the midfield all the time which was a problem this year. I’d just love to know how the “invest two thirds of your salary cap in just a handful or so of players” strategy is a superior one.
I agree, the only way we will get top end players in the foreseeable future looks like drafting them to the club. In which case, just rebuild now and get it over with.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

I get the sense some clubs like to spear their cap around a lot of players, some stars and a lot of role players.

Re: Early Trade Rumours 2023
But if the wingers are good, why aren?t they playing inside the game at u18 level...particularly if the inside mids are below par? Something is not right here.
The Coates league clubs have one mandate - get players drafted. So if they are abandoning the 2005s it doesn?t necessarily mean the 06?s have passed them...it DOES mean they still have hope for the 06?s though. U18 team selection is often agenda based not merit based.
Bad example but wasnt Cale Morton taken at pick 4 after the most outside u18 year for any to pick?
Some play multiple roles - Windsor forward, Freijah a bit of everywhere.

I guess his KPP form in the SANFL means he's versatile enough. I really haven't seen enough to say whether this is inherently good or bad.Western Bulldogs: 2016 PremiersComment
