I think if fans had it their way (and I don't mean nuffy fans) about 10-12 players would be turned over a year per list, with no fringe players ever coming in and only wanting absolute stars unless they are under 22.

The reality is, bringing 8-10 18 years a year wouldn't turn out great and you need depth players.

Not trying to give heaps of love to Tomlinson, just seems a real blanket no to depth guys from most.

Tomlinson is not the type of player we need

Why do you believe this to be true? Not disagreeing, I am not really strong either way.

Tomlinson was a fringe player 8 years ago.
Markov has at least 3 years on Tomlinson

Marty Hore was a fringe intercept marking tall for Melbourne too - why not him?
The cost is far, far cheaper for someone who legitimately dominates his position at VFL level.

If reports of a cap crunch are actually true, bringing in a $500k fringe defender doesn't make sense to me. He's not a bad player, but cost vs output simply has to part of every trade discussion.

If we are bringing in defenders from other clubs, then they have to be better than Gardner and Keath, otherwise why bother.
I will never see #16 the same!!

He is 30 years old and no taller than the Bont. He can't handle the monsters of the AFL, has not been a consistent performer and since joining Dees has played, 13, 7, 8, and 9 games each year. We don't need another 30 plus year old to play as a HBF.

Good point. So much of it for mine is about the salary he takes up. If there are cheaper options, I'd go that way too.

Would you knock back Steven May if he decided he wanted to join the dogs? Shorter and older than Tomlinson.

I don't really think we need him either but it's not just age and height related.

I used those two traits to emphasise we don't need someone with that profile but also said he is not a consistent performer.

Dogs cap crunch right NOW or end of next year?

I kind of see it as part of the squad though. You need decent supplementary players, that are willing to play a role and may step up as required.

I'm not spruiking Tomlinson specifically, however depth is super important and may eek you over the line in a game that makes all the difference.

Personally I would've kept TOB however his body just doesn't stand up.

Apparently Crows have some interest in TOB if they lose Doedee.

According to Tom Morris they are also looking at Marbior Chol. I guess with Hardwick arriving, he wants out.
