compensation, if there is - it should only be after the first round.

I said that yesterday to Jon Ralph and he came back with:

Should be after pick 6, 12 and 18 depending upon the size of the contract. That way it doesn’t encourage clubs to rort the system. Only truly massive offers result in top 5 compo picks

I think we have said this over the years that compo should come from the team acquiring the player. why should all other teams be disadvantaged by having their pick down graded.

Ben McKay has nominated Essendon as his new home.


As a restricted free agent, North Melbourne has the right to match the bid.
However, if it?s over 750k+ a year and enough to net first-round (pick 3) compo, expect the Roos to let him walk.

Has any player become a better player in the last 7000 days Essendon have not won a final ?

I can see him end up playing VFL in this last year

Has mega Frawley vibes

Frawley could actually lock down and was quicker than he appeared to be. I'd much prefer a prime Chips Frawley on our list than Ben McKay. Good player.

Trouble is the compo is linked to the salary.

How could the AFL just make it up as they go?

They clearly have a defined formula that the simply can't share.

It is something along the lines

The compensation is dependent on the contract accepted.
The band is determined by that except where there is an overriding opportunity to either advantage the side losing the player and/or we just feel like doing something different in any particular instance.
It is written into the unwritten part of the AFL constitution to prevent the detail every being known and much less understood.

Additionally this can be adapted in any way if we have someone really ask nicely.
