    Out
    • McNeil
    • Gardner
    • Cleary (I like him but needs a spell)
    • Adz
    In
    • Darcy
    • JJ
    • Buss/Jones
    • Coffield
One less rotation in the midfield with Adz out but he was really poor. It was a mistake to bring him without any match practice. He appears to have no faith in his body.
McNeil has had some games where he looks to have gotten it together but he then just loses composure and confidence. I think we have persisted with him enough but he is unlikely to improve and we would be a better served team playing Dolan and Jones if he manages to get over his bad hamstring injury.
Cleary isn’t too bad but has lost confidence. Drop him, let him work through some things and wait for improvement before elevating him again.
I don’t actually blame Gardner for the loss. He tries hard but has limitations and Hawthorn and our system exploited them. I don’t understand why Buss couldn’t play. Even if we lost with Buss I don’t think we would be saying “we shoulda gone with Gardner” and he’d at least learn something from it.

This week we did the main session on Monday and the Captains run on Wednesday. I suspect this week the main session might be Tuesday.

JJ, Darcy, Gallagher and Coffield could be in the mix.
The other issue this week is the VFL playing Saturday and then if players are picked, playing again on Thursday, so a 5 day break

That's was the point I'm trying to make. It's a short break and it creates some additional challenges.

I guess they might need to manage the minutes of any VFL players they are considering bringing in.

Absolutely. We have a core of players who weren’t up to the task on Thursday night and who shouldn’t play again this week. We need to manage the process to an ensure this doesn’t happen. It will be a major failure on our part if we aren’t up to this task.

Yep, some quick decisions might need to be made and maybe a couple of players might have come off after half time.

Prior to you joining mate I had Lachie Hunter as my bingo card player, where every crazy little thing he might do (and there were many of them) were on the bingo card and if they came up during a game I'd really focus on their impacts and lose my shit over them. That's despite him having been an amazing two way runner, accumulator, on field coach, outlet provider and occasional freak user of the ball for us over a long time.

I could have gone with Williams as his replacement, maybe even Bailey Dale but he was too consistently good. So I picked West as I saw huge potential in his ability to frustrate me in game, but also really please me with the work he can do when he keeps it simple and team oriented.

So when he has a stinker like last night it triggers me, and it's all my fault! So I can admit he's had a super year and is trending in the right direction, but reserve my right to go wild when he does the crazy shit he's capable of because he's my new bingo card player. Everyone needs a bingo card player, or a whipping boy if you will........
                  TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

Davidson was quiet yesterday, with a few more back in the midfield and a couple other wing options available, wouldn't mind seeing him playing the high half forward role for a few weeks. He's looked pretty good forward of the ball when he's played there. McNeil comes out for me and maybe Davidson can take his spot fwd and go with West, Darcy, Vanders, Davidson, Naughton, Dolan with Buku off the bench as our third tall. Sanders stays in for mine as another hff option.

Gardner was poor and not much more needs to be said, but he comes out and maybe Coffield in if he has a good VFL game (listed as emergency so must be close). Potentially could see Sellwood in earlier than expected if he looks good tomorrow in the VFL.

In - Darcy, JJ (if fit), Coffield OR Sellwood, Dolan into 22
Out - Gardner, Cleary, Bramble, McNeil to sub

Watching the VFL and the only players putting up their hands are: Hynes, Buss, Jones. Baker and Coffield steady but I wouldn't bring them in.

The d6 selection will be interesting. For weeks we have just run with lobby and JOD and backed our halfback and midfield grid to suffocate the supply. I feel like we looked better when we returned to a similar setup when lobb went forward.

We did that (played with 2 talls) and had allowed GC and Geelong to kick over 100 points so it was time for a change.

We went for an extra tall, which was the right cal, but the one we chose played like he had never played at that level before and his mistakes/ poor defending cost us dearly.

Good call on Davidson. Settle him and VDM as our high half forwards gives us a good point of difference. Both good athletes who can actually mark the football and have the ability hit the scoreboard. West and Dolan to provide pressure inside the forward 50. Nice mix of mid sized players.
More of an In Bruges guy?

I don't mind the look of this but I wonder if we will go into the game so tall?
Just a few weeks back we were going into games with 2 tall forward and 2 tall back with Tim in the ruck.
Against the Hawks we added a tall defender and granted it didn't quite work but would we be bold enough to have 3 defenders, 3 forwards and Tim?
It might be one too many. Unless we are planning to play Frejiah or Williams as the extra defender I think you are also one running defender light on
