Baker is healthier, younger and more impactful than the JJ that ran out against the Lions. This is just facts.

Maybe JJ will build into some form (VFL or AFL) but right now, match committee will have to pick between the two and I think Baker would be the smarter move unless you can fit both in somehow.

Baker is a good player, people don't understand this.

Idk if Baker is a 'good' player but he is at least competitive-ish/able to keep up or whatever you want to call it.

The thing I believe fans might undervalue is how much of a liability it is to play a kid (well anyone, but they tend to be kids) who cannot basically keep up with the ridiculous amount of running.

Strong this - all of Dolan, Hynes and Davidson had to be managed for less than 70% of game time against the Lions. The Lions had one in Sam Day who played 68% of the game (outside of the subs).

We saw a big drop-off in the second half from guys who had been excellent up until half time - you'd have to argue that they had less rest because we were managing too many guys' minutes and we were coming off some seriously hard encounters.

It's great to be blooding these younger guys but that was simply way too inexperienced on the weekend. Pick two of them, but don't let it impact how we can run out games.

I'd probably play Baker in one of those pressure forward slots this week in place of Hynes or Dolan - he's quick and he goes hard. I think it suits him more than streaming from the D50 where his skills are a huge worry. JJ should be better for the run, I'd stick with him.

Yep, we can carry one (ie: Dolan) but not two who aren't 120 minutes ready at the highest level. Our hand was forced at selection against Brisbane with VDM being out last week, and Hynes was notionally the next best uninjured/available option. Hynes doesn't play if Garcia or Weightman were available.

5 day break from Perth doesn't help either. Perfect storm for an implosion in hindsight.

With no VDM I think Dolan sort of has to keep his spot doesn't he? I don't think we really have anyone else who can come in and do any more than what he did vs Brisbane, and I think he has a higher ceiling that we are close to seeing

Dolans getting better every week so I think he stays regardless. I really don’t want to drop Hynes after one game but I agree with the sentiments above that we’re carrying too much youth who can’t contribute.

What I’d probably do is Bont & Gallagher in for Harmes & Buku, Hynes to sub let him come on when the games slowed down a bit to hopefully find his feet.

Too tall down back with Buku, especially against Saints who aren’t overly tall. JOD can play as a genuine tall utility between fwd/back/ruck depending on where we need him most and Bont will likely spend some
time Forward too this week as he eases back in so can cover the 3rd tall fwd role at times.

As wary as I am about playing the kids, I think we keep Dolan in. He suits the role he is playing and our other options would be marginally better at best. Dolan has the upside/development element. I think I'd actually start Dolan as we are down a small forward I think. Baker offering some experience as the sub.

In terms of Saints forward line being small, that's true but they also have a couple of medium-talls who can take an overhead mark. They have much better depth but GWS going tall down back definitely worked for them. If we had other options that would add run, I'd go them over Buku but I am not sure we do.

                  In: Bont, Baker
                  Out: Harmes, Haynes

He's been in the rehab group on both Saturday and today and as Axe mentions he's going to miss a couple of weeks.

With Bont back, I would simply remove Buku and put O'Donnell down back. Ease him back into it by playing him forward.
Harmes out for Gallagher maybe... still feels like slim pickings to me.

Cleary clocked the top speed against the lions at 32.4 km/hr. Is he sneaky quick? Probs quick top end speed but average acceleration is my hunch. I've never watched him that closely.
