Obviously directed at me, and that’s cool.

I will point out that you were the one calling out WOOFer’s reactions here as ‘disgusting’ ‘garbage’ and ‘downright embarrassing’. Not much care there from what I can see?

I’ll reiterate what I said previously, which in no way was a personal attack on you and applies to myself.

Surely if people want to vent and critique the performance and express negativity, they have every right to do so as do others who want to do the opposite. If it crosses the line into personal attacks or obscenities that clearly cross a line of civility, there is a mod team here who’s role it is to address these and maintain the standards if they determine they’re not being met.

I’m happy there is a mix of opinions on here and it doesn’t always lead to agreement. Policing how people critique and respond to performances doesn’t help that mix, imo. In footy terms, let’s play the ball, not the man.
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

Woof has lost a lot of good posters over the years because of some of the stuff written. I tell you what, social media is just getting worse and worse.
Everyone in Melbourne is edgy after the past four weeks. Nothing damaging has been said it's all around disappointment, frustration, anger and loathing. I don't think anyone has been attacked there have just been a few vehement opinions thrown around because people have frayed edges. We were on such a high on top of the ladder and premiership favourites then Essendon happened, then Hawthorn happened, then Port happened, then Brisbane happened. I'm surprised the place hasn't melted down to be honest and credit to the board that it hasn't.

I've been on the edge emotionally since the Hawthorn game, that's where I lost all hope and started hibernating in order to start looking after my emotional well being. I think people are still looking after each other here but you simply can't expect everyone to be measured in their assessment of what has transpired, we're not robots. You just have to understand that the 50 trade Bailey Smith comments following the Hawthorn game and the sack Bevo comments following the Port game are just human beings trying to vent frustration, make sense of the world crumbling around them and go through a cleansing process to help them move through it and get to the other side. At least that's what I've gone through.

This board is critical to facilitate that because many of us don't have any other safe emotional place where this process is possible. Let's keep caring for each other and respecting all opinions because often an outlandish post to some might very well be a means of another poster trying to navigate their way through an emotional and uncertain feeling.

Let's just beat Essendon and see what happens.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

Like Campbells article pointed out this has been the interpretation for a while. A bit like how Razor explained to Roarke after the abuse free kick. I'm pretty sure if the player is immediately tackled without prior, and attempts to dispose of the ball legally (usually only by foot because failed handballs are always paid), or the ball is "knocked out" (they release it), and they do this within a reasonable time (usually within a couple of seconds) they call play on. I think they interpret it as a reasonable attempt.

I don't really agree with it but for the most part they do call it consistently, but like a lot of AFL rules it adds a lot of gray and means there will be some overlap between similar instances being a free and not.

Yeah still not sold on that. They've failed to beat anybody serious all year including at home with big crowds.

Falling over the line against us when they dominated all game and we played at half capacity doesn't convince me they are good enough.

Why wasn’t it simply a free kick to him seeing it began before the ball got near being a possible goal?
It should be but the umpires virtually never pay anything when it involves trying to protect the ball going through the goals. I mean almost everytime it is a scenario like that the attacker will illegally block, hold, pull, scrag, strangle or push the defender and I can't recall a single instance in years where a free has been paid. I'm actually curious what they'd have to do for the free to be paid, and it definitely feels like they've been allowed to get even more audacious with their actions with no consequences of late.
I should leave it alone but you're not right

I guess I am the other poster.

IMO no-one that I saw "personally attacked you".

As far as I am concerned if there are posts you don't agree with, quote them. Explain why you don't agree.

People ARE allowed to express their opinions, no matter how you or I might not like those opinions.

There's a difference between disagreeing with and silencing others simply because I don't agree with their opinions or find it offends me.

There's no obligation on anyone here to make this place how I want it to be. There are site rules and that's it.

It’s probably a golden rule to avoid taking issue with game day thread comments. Emotions run high. If people are looking for positivity ONLY, it’s not a smart idea to go to the game day thread after a loss. Especially after the diabolical 3 weeks this club has just put up. It’d be weird cult-like to find positivity everywhere.

I certainly vent in the game day thread. It does help my well-being. I have no other outlet as no one else understands the frustrations we doggie fans go through. It helps knowing we’re all on this together.

A wise man once said anything said in the game day thread is inadmissible in court.
