It's been abundantly clear with those who have returned straight into the senior side.

I still think we're missing the mark by thinking we're going to get materially better by tweaking around the edges with selection. To me swapping Cordy for Schache, Wood for Richards, VDM for Garcia and JJ for JUH isn't going to be the difference between winning and losing. It might help a little bit, but it won't be the difference.

Put simply, our midfielders need to play better than they did last night if we are to win against good teams consistently. Hell, they need to play better than they did last night if we are to beat ordinary teams consistently.

When you have your two leading possession getters not impacting the game with dangerous disposal or hitting the scoreboard it's a worry. When you have three of your other prime movers not getting their hands on the footy enough it's a worry. When all combined can't handle the ball cleanly and cough it up at the coal face it's a worry.

Our one wood is miss-firing and we simply don't have the personnel at either end of the ground to make up for it.
    TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

Totally agree with you, I can't see many changes given we lost by 2 points with the mids well down.

Bont had 15 disposals, Libba 17, Dunkley 17. BSmith had a lot of the ball, but my god he butchered it.

Maybe Bont played too much time up forward. I don't want him up forward (or in the ruck up forward), and perhaps Schache is the last tall standing that comes in to help?????

We have been at our best winning clearances, and last night we lost the stoppage clearances. (even in the centre)

It's an interesting observation. I used to think the same as you, however recently we've been losing the contested possession count consistently. So surely that means the opposition play at least an equally taxing type of game?

The k's covered data is even usually.

I hear you, but I'm not as sure.

If anyone honestly takes last night’s margin into account and draws any positive from it, they’re kidding themselves. Beyond the first 10 minutes, we were utterly outplayed and could have easily been a 5+ goal loss.
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

It was a two point result against an inform top 4 team, with our mids out of form. Facts are facts.

            Doesn't mean I am happy.

Re: WB Game Day V Port Adelaide R23 2021

One thing that frustrated me was how often DBJ was just sitting off the clearance in Port’s defensive side of the stoppage, had it knocked his way and gathered under no pressure and got a kick away. Our structure around the stoppages is not working, we are too slow to react to things that appear obvious (appreciate it’s hard for us to see off the TV and maybe I’m missing something).

              Bont looks sore.

Liberatore was scragged all night without a free (maybe within the rules) but it hurt us, and Macrae, while again a lot of the ball he’s not our cleanest player out of the clearance and looks tired from carrying a huge load all year.

Injuries have hurt as we haven’t been able to keep ourselves as fresh, but would be great to see us set up a bit differently and make the opposition have to work a bit harder. I don’t think the ruck situation makes a huge difference to it either, so not going to blame that.
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

Agree. It was obvious that Port were going to make adjustments and ask the question. We’ve seen us grind to a halt before and it happened again.

Does anyone know if there is a source where we can see how many time each player attended centre bounces?

Watching last night I got the feeling Dunkley should have replaced Liberatore in the middle from Q2 onwards.

Maybe next week we need to have Dunkley, Liberatore, Bontempelli and Treloar attend more centre bounces than not to at least try and stem the flow of the opposition.

You can get those stats on the AFL app if you go into the match centre->stats->player stats->edit then add CBA.

We need Dunkley to be more prominent in the mix next week. It's now or never, and he should be fit enough after a few games at the highest level.

It is a good question. But doesn't Bruce do some of the ruck work when it is forward? Even some relieving work. I don't know what is going through Bevo's mind sometimes.

A question about last night’s game.

When the review tried to see if Cordy touched the ball before it went over the line we saw Cordy pulled away from the ball by a stranglehold around his neck.

Why wasn’t it simply a free kick to him seeing it began before the ball got near being a possible goal?

Umpiring was atrocious last night. There is no such thing as holding the ball or incorrect disposal unless you are a Bulldog player.

The so called dangerous tackle was a joke and that Port player should get done for faking
