Assistant coaches seem to move around a lot at the end of every season .
I don’t know much about Pratt but I would be surprised if Melbourne go with an inexperienced coach .
I just get the feeling they need a Longmire or a Buckley .
Personally I see the problem a lot higher . I happened to have a chat with a Melbourne footballers dad last year and he was telling me the club is a disgrace how they treat their players and a lot were not happy .
    Bring back the biff

I would be very surprised if they haven't already got their man. Seems odd to boot Goodwin after a 14 goal win if you don't have a candidate in play. My guess is that someone (maybe Carlton) were also sniffing around so they have jumped early.

*Nb: They might have just jumped so they could start getting the process rolling while there is no competition.

Ledge can you list me the coaches in the last 25 years that have done anything of note at their second or third club?
More of an In Bruges guy?

I like Bucks and hope he doesn’t go to Dee’s poisoned chalice. Appear to have some cultural challenges.

if one or both of our assistants is interviewed & poached it’s good advertising for us. Hopefully we’d attract another good up & comer assistant.

It would be good if you could define your interpretation of "anything of note"? Premierships? Turning a club around? GF appearances?
Eade 3 preliminary with us and helping shape the club for the future I rate very highly but it might not meet your definition if it's about GF appearances and flags.
Some Melbourne supporters credit Paul Roos for setting them up for a a few years of challenging for flags.
BAD has pointed out Malthouse. Matthews might be another.

First time coaches have been successful but I wouldn't rule out the experienced coaches providing they have an ability to adapt.
I don't believe any club searching for a coach would knock back Chris Scott if he expressed an interest.

He coached Collingwood 2000-2011 and won a premiership. Pretty sure that is within 25 years of Aza's scenario. Collingwood was his third club

I think it’s more that the whole club seems unstable , all these interim jobs around atm , they need someone who has experience in coaching before and a big name like Longmire would put faith back into the fans .

I know, I meant 2002-03 are just within the 25 years. 2010-11 obviously well within.

Is there a difference in 2nd/3rd time coach success where they choose to leave (Malthouse/Longmire) vs being sacked (almost every other coach)?

I think in essence, Aza is right - I can't think of any other coach that has left and had success at another club in the past 25 years.

Ross Lyon didn't get a flag, but definitely had success when he went from the Saints to Freo.

                            Ross Lyon enters

                            2012 - 7th, one final win
                            2013 - 3rd, two final wins, GF
                            2014 - 4th, zero final wins
2015 - 1st, one final win, lost home prelim

                            Then wheels fell off.

Fair calls. Eade's tenor was successful.

When I responded to Ledge I was definitely thinking of making and winning Grand Finals. History shows success normally comes with an untried coach.

Some of my saint supporting mates still have not forgiven how Lyon left the state of the saints list and how he left the club.
