Re: Welcome to the Western Bulldogs Rory Lobb

Gerard Whateley was very scathing of Lobb and his Manager about accepting responsibility for performance and stop blaming everyone else. He basically said after his performances would anyone be interested in taking him on.

No. That’s the concern I had after Friday night. He’s our VFL depth player on good coin now.

Pretty cheap insurance for the next 2 years if English exercises his FA. West Coast were absolutely rogered at stoppages yesterday against the worst team in the comp - I reckon they will have renewed interest in English.

If Tim goes then yep, he’s a ruckman then. The longer Tim apparently stalks us, the more you think this might just be the odds on result. We can’t match what WCE can offer. Frankly, Darcy is going to cost a lot more a lot sooner now so he’d be a higher priority to me.

Is he really on good coin after the salary cap ramps up?

Hold him to his contract, we owe him no favours in finding somewhere else to play.
            TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

Re: Welcome to the Western Bulldogs Rory Lobb

‘Rory is that man’: Dogs set to persist with Lobb despite quiet Lions outing

Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge has thrown his support behind struggling Rory Lobb, insisting the forward-ruck will not lose his spot in the team next week if he is fit.

Lobb has struggled to have an impact since returning to the senior line-up last week, managing a meagre total of 17 touches, three marks and one goal combined from both games.

The 31-year-old had no influence during the Dogs’ 43-point loss to Brisbane on Friday night, registering only five disposals before being subbed out late in the game with an ankle complaint.
ABC Sport boundary reporter Tim Hodges said it was “a bit unsavoury” when Lobb came to the bench, adding he’d “copped a lot of Bronx cheers”.

“A dirty night. He would be hating what’s played out tonight. The fans have really turned against him,” Hodges said on ABC Sport.
A report on last month suggested Lobb had “already made up his mind” and would request a trade to a fourth AFL club next season despite having two years left on his contract the Bulldogs. Beveridge then said he wasn’t even aware of the report when Lobb made an appearance in his office in a meeting during which the coach told the player he was still “one of our people”.

With Sam Darcy still out suspended and key forward Aaron Naughton (knee) sidelined, Beveridge on Friday night all but guaranteed Lobb would tackle his old team Fremantle in Round 14, assuming his injury isn’t serious.

“Well, he’s our second ruck, too, and we need to share that load,” Beveridge said.

“It’s too much of a challenge for one person and we come up against (Luke) Jackson and (Sean) Darcy this week … so it’s not going to get any easier.

“So we’re going to need a bona fide second ruck and Rory is that man who will play that role, so absolutely (the Bulldogs will persist with him).”

After being put “to the sword” by Brisbane at the stoppages, with the Lions comfortably winning clearances 50-32, Beveridge said his team would need to dig deep to turn those numbers around against the Dockers who thumped them in the same category 47-30 last time they played in Round 7.

“Caleb Serong, Nat Fyfe, Andrew Brayshaw and their rucks so absolutely that’s where they won the game last time,” Beveridge said.

“Big challenge going into this week when you consider what happened tonight.”

Former: In context, yes, as a depth/VFL player.

                  Latter: Yep.

Re: Welcome to the Western Bulldogs Rory Lobb

Fellow woofers I missed yesterdays game V North Melb due to family commitments and honestly I am not sure I will bother with a replay.

Obviously the big move of the day was Lobb back.

I?d be interested to read people?s thoughts on his game yesterday and the role he played.

The big question moving forward will be his intensity game in game out and his ability to compete against genuine teams and key position forwards.

He was good and read the play really well. Worth giving some more time to in that role.

Thanks EW. I saw a stat where he and Jones managed 18 marks and 21 intercept possessions between them.

If Lobb can be relied upon to be an interceptor higher up the ground we can leave Jones deep which hopefully will limit the number of goals Jones leaks purely because he is trying to do too much.

The impressive part was not only how he read the ball but his speed to get to a contest. Good way to get confidence as well not having to worry about delivery.

Wasn't terrible once the ball hit the deck either. There was that one contest where it was him vs 2 North blokes in their 50 isolated and it looked like it'd be trouble once the ball got past him on the deck but he caught back up quickly and killed the contest. He had a few moments like that where, if it were Buku or probably even JOD at this stage, you'd mark it down as a goal
