Hopefully Naughton can get enough miles in his legs to continue playing with his high half forward role during 2024.

The Croft selection is the one I am really questioning; I get his athletic profile but 200cm is still 200cm.
Yeah, I get it. It kinda feels like Darcy with the Croft piece. He may just knock the door down and demand selection. If he can run like the wind, maybe he plays as the spare parts sub (probably where I’ve got him at this stage) and we can shuffle other rotations to make it work.

    Plenty to play out.
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

Big question for everyone if you have to choose one of McNiel or Vanders in your stating line up in 2025 who do you choose?

I must say one of the things that stood out to me at the ground in the final was the work rate of McNiel, I'd love to know distance covered but his high speed running that night was phenomenal. I think we can keep one of the two but need some more hurt factor from the other role hence I'm going McNiel and maybe Arty/Garcia/West/Davidson lets see how the preseason unfolds.

Although he looks the fittest I’ve seen him this pre season vanders seems to break down a lot McNeil seems more durable but I think both are great depth options for those small forward roles I think there should be a few should be ahead of them though.

Honestly, I still McNeil has upside and can play higher up the ground than VDM.

VDM has one trick and he does it well, being that hard running selfless high forward. It's a good trick but McNeill can do a bit more in a few more spots. I think he can rotate onto the wing too (remembering he was playing inside/outside mid at SANFL level) so if we're looking for that last bench spot, Lachie gets it.

Did McNeil express a desire to play on a wing?

Comparing McNeil and Vandermeer's stats for 2024, McNeil comes out significantly ahead in contested possessions, tackles, clearances, and intercepts, plus somewhat ahead in goals, score involvements, and disposals. The only significant stat Vandermeer has on McNeil is marks. I think McNeil is just a better pressure forward.

                        B: Coffield - Jones - Bramble
HB: Dale - Lobb - Freijah
                        C: Williams - Treloar - McNeil
HF: VDM - Naughton - Kennedy
                        F: Darcy - JUH - Weightman
                        C: English - Bont - Richards
                        I: O'Donnell Sanders Garcia West
                        Sub: Libba

Regarding McNeil, pretty sure he did say on radio recently he was spending preseason on a wing. If it's the case, I back him to make it his own early. From memory, he forced himself into last years round 1 team based on some excellent preseason form playing closer to goals, only to be named on a wing in round 1 and was not seen again for 12 weeks.

My 'big call' is the match committee starting Libba as a sub early and then realising their mistake and putting him back where he belongs.

Lots of talk about VDM as usual but unless he is injured, I just don't see him not being named on a half forward flank.

Back pocket the other interesting one for me, Duryea the obvious one but they overlooked him early last year for a look similar to the one above. I'll go with Coffield to start.

There are a couple of big calls there jDogs but we are trying to squeeze a couple of extra players in.
Coffield ahead of JOD us a slight surprise. I was having a close look at Freijah the other day and he looks to be nearly KP height and build. At a pinch I think he play tall.
Happy to see Garcia and West in the best 22 as well and Sanders probably needs to be rewarded as well. Libba has to play if fit?
Gallagher has some work to do to get into the line-up. Harmes might get into the mix as well.

What’s everyone’s thoughts on James Harmes? I feel that trade has bit us on the nether-region. Is he serviceable this year because if he can’t manage more than 8 games, surely he gets delisted/traded again. I feel the Kennedy intro put his min back even further.

In terms of best line up, I just want to see selection being consistent throughout the year. If you’re out of form, drop to the twos, rule applies for everyone. 1-3 year player will always play a bad game here and there so patience must be applied.

I guess we have to see how he performs over the preseason to see if he can find a spot. Something didn't work right with him for us last season. I'm hopeful he can find a spot but he is going to need a few things to go his way.

The other watch is Scott, was a consistent contributor but has fallen away since injury and form. Few players at the cross road. Scott, Poulter, Harmes, Barker - it’s not a coincidence most of them are second club players. Depth at best.
