    Re: The Bald Eagle

As bad as Eagleton was or had been yesterday there was a specific piece of play in the last qtr that buried him for me.

Eagleton received the ball at CHB for us with an opponent some 5 metres behind. He had clear space in front of him and we really needed him to carry the ball for us. Eagleton chose to kick the ball to a leading opponent across half forward and his kick missed the target. To me it looked like Eagleton had no confidence in his ability to be able to out run the Eagles player on his tail.

In the past Eagleton would have been able to provide the run and carry we needed, he couldn't do it yesterday when we required and as he will be required to do in subsequent games. (if he is there)

Surely his days are numbered, surely.

An Eagleton fan? thought they were only ever on the match committee.

I have wanted to see the back of him for years. i know every team needs outside runners but he just doesn't do what he is in the team to do.
Contrary to what everyone says he is not a great kick. Prelim final perfect example, 40m straight in front, big goal doesn't make the distance. to be honest I thought he was making me eat my words 6-8 weeks ago but since the hawks game the old familiar Eagleton has come back to haunt us.

But the time has come for me to resign my post as leader in chief of the N.Eagleton defence team. Two months of insipid performances can not be ignored. I respect you enormously as a person and what you have given to the club, 199 games to date. But i can no longer keep the defence up. This club is in desperate need of leadership, especially on field. I sincerely hope you can play the magical 200th game and hope the best for you. But the club needs a different direction going ahead and I just don't see how you fit into that next year.

All the best for the future and I hope you can prove us all wrong.

That handball he gave off to Johno, on Johno's non preferred side, was the last straw for me.

If that was someone else, they would've gone back and taken the shot.

How about the kick at goal with no pressure that was sprayed out of bounds on the full, some time ago he would of kicked those!

Yes, it is a shame. He has given an enormous amunt to this club and if there were footy gods, he would leave the game on a high. However, in the real, dog eat dog world of AFL, that rarely happens. But that is exaccerbated when you constantly underperform, especially in crunch moments that make or breks seasons, last year against Geelong and this year against WCE. I'm not blaming him directly for either losses, but he did leave some DNA on the loss. I hope he can leave the club with his head held high and that people don't hold some poor performances as the memory of him. But if not, that's footy i guess.

My anger really isn't towards Eagle at all. I think he is actually working hard and doing his all but his ability is really letting him down and he just isn't up to it. Don't blame Eagle, blame the guys picking him week in, week out. What an example they are setting to the kids.

Isn't "take the space" written on the team walls?

It sh!ts me enough when Cross gets the ball and instantly looks sideways, but when our designated ballcarriers start doing it we may as well drag them and play a man short.

Eagle has battled over the years (the guy almost died on the field FFS!) but the game has, sadly, gone well past him now.

I was about to mention this, but in a different way. What I was going to say was Crossy saw Eagleton a few metres in front, to his right up the wing in the first quarter. Cross was about to be chased down, and was looking desperately to get rid of the ball. He spots Eagleton, double takes and looks for another outlet, but none are present, dishes it off to Eagleton who then i'm pretty sure did not handle the situation well... we know what usually happens.

Also, Eagletons lack of intensity and lack of effort to complete a tackle. Yes, every now and then he might give a half-arsed run, but my god, he just gives up.

Eade, it's seriously not funny anymore. I want him out.

Cross wouldn't have wanted to give it to Eagleton initially because Eagleton was running onto his right foot and we all know what would have happened next.

I was thinking (ok..hoping) more just because it was Eagleton in general, but I didn't think of that, and you're actually probably right. Neeless to say, things did not end well as a result anyway.

Eagleton gets smashed in this thread after each poor performance (pretty much every week recently) so in the interest of fairness I will add some kind words.

I thought Eagle had a good game on Saturday night. He made the most of his opportunities kicking 3 goals and setting up a few others. As an outside player there is a massive onus on him being damaging with his opportunities and if can show the same form in the next two games I would be happy to have him in our 22.

Best i've seen him play in a long while. He may have just picked the right time to peak for finals. Well hopefully.

While there has been plenty of Eagle bashing, we need to understand that he has been fumbling badly, BUT he has at least been getting to the right spots.

I attended the game in Brisbane with a mate who supports Geelong. We were discussing the game on the drive up from the Gold Coast and he told me how he really rated Eagleton. Eagle then proceeded to prove him right by doing everything my mate believed he was dangerous at.

Incidentally Michael Voss showed Eagle a great deal of respect as I noticed he had Cheynee Stiller play very defensively on him in the third quarter around half forward in front of where I was seated.
