I love these attributes in a player, but as my Richmond supporting mate used to say about Todd Menegola, he had beautiful kicking skills but he just never got the ball.

Give me smart footballers who can play the game first and foremost. Obviously would love some players with neat skills, sound decision making and a good turn of pace, but not at the expense of knowing how to play the game.

With the likely departures of Cordy and Minson over the next couple of seasons leaving us with only Campbell it might not be a bad idea.
      From that article
"South Australian Sam Baulderstone – who shed close to 40kg and became a premiership player with Norwood – has also caught the eye of recruiters and looks a possible rookie pick."

A typo yeah, that can't be right surely?

No, from everything i've read it appears it is true. He was a regular Mumford in the BBQ stakes before 2012. Moved down from the middle of shithouse in SA and got his act together.

We could consider swooping in and picking up Grimley before the Hawks (I know he's probably more of a forward than a ruckman)?

Hawks cut Grimley, but set to re-draft him as a rookie

If we get Foster in the RD, probably not at a guess.

I really hope we rookie Foster.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Terrific interview on Bulldog website featuring Dalrymple - places some credence on comments to date in this thread. It looks like it's going to be best available at this stage for the five live picks.

Re: Where to with Trade/Draft Strategy from Here?

I was just watching and reading about Daniel McKenzie, really warming to him at our first few picks. Tested fantastically well at the combineop 10 for agility, running vertical jump, repeat sprints and the 3km time trial. He looks like he is a lovely left foot kick and has the ability to read the ball well in the air and take a nice grab. We desperatley need some class and this kid looks like he ticks a lot of boxes.

What are peoples thoughts? Any players they are keen on?

Looked at a few BF phantoms. It would seem that if we really want him we would have to go with 26 or 27 if he is still available. However, he seems to be a popular choice for going in the 30's but whether he would last to 39 based on the BF consensus seems uncertain. Mind you Paige Cardona v5 has him at 60! But another has him at 22. I have said it before but I wouldn't fancy JMac's task - mind you, he would have more and better info than BF phantom drafts.

I've mentioned him on the state league thread. Pick 26 or 27 might be too early for him but he would fill a few needs.

Has anyone else noticed the average possession counts for these guys in the TAC Cup are really low? The top 5 in the Draft Machine only averaged 19, 8, 12, 18 & 8 touches.

I think the ability to win the ball is underrated these days, it used to be all about possessions yet now with more sophisticated stats available they seem to get ignored. I think they are still the best indication of whether they can play.
If you kicked five goals and Tom Boyd kicked five goals, Tom Boyd kicked more goals than you.

Given we've got two picks at that spot I think he'd be ideal with one of them - can't see him being there at 39

But there are likely to be quite a few good players available

Metres gained is one stat looked at for flanker types - the other is the composition of possession. High numbers of uncontested ball can be a worrying sign even in kids who carve it up as an 18 year old (e.g. Cale Morton, Jimmy Toumpas, Kane Lucas).
