More than anything some pace and great foot skills are top of my wish list. A small forward, who is quick, who can kick goals and pile on pressure is something I've wanted for a while now.
Same. I'd also be happy with a Toby Greene type forward.
Does Higgins fit the bill? His U18 stats are insane.
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

Ill defer to G who would've seen him live. But it would seem so. I watched a clip from Twomey yesterday who said he likes him, also said he played as a small full forward one day and kicked 7. The consensus of stuff I've read and watched is that 9 is a bit too high, but may not get to 16.

I did some rankings a few weeks back and I think I had him at pick 12 so our picks 9 and 16 aren't out of the mix.
He's one of the most prepared players out of this years list and yes he did kick 7 in a game.
Given small forwards need to have a defensive edge to their game this is not something that Higgins is known for but I'm as confident as I can be to say if a club demands that from him he will make the adjustment.
He's not quick by foot but he is a very smart player. I think he will find a way to transition into senior football and the biggest question is how much upside has he got.
He could go at 9 but because of the question around his playing ceiling I think I'd take the chance more at pick 16 not at pick 9.

I'd like to hear some compelling reasons to select him? With Boyd and Schache plus Young drafted as a forward and Redpath he'd clearly have to be the next best player I'd think to get into the selection mix at 9.

I'm just looking at another update and I think we are a genuine but slightly outside chance to land either Stephenson or Naughton.
I suspect that if Collingwood overlook Naughton and go for Fogarty then the Saints should select Naughton but if the have committed themselves to either Bonar or Clark (or both) or Coffield then we might be in a very strong position with a couple of highly regarded players still available. I can't see why clubs would be dumb enough to pass on Stephenson but if they do what a pick-up he would be for us.
Ed Richards is the most intriguing player at pick 9 who could provide run and carry off half back or a wing for us if everything lands as per the speculation in the media but if Stephenson and Naughton are available it's going to be hard to pass them over.
Despite us having a number of tall defenders Naughton could be better than most of them.
There is a lot of speculation that Brisbane will take Rayner at pick 1 and then follow it up with Lachlan Fogarty at 15 with the view that Rayner will be better for having his Western Jets mate there as well.

It seems like the top 6 are fairly set in stone
Rather, LDU, Dow, Brayshaw, Cerra, Stephenson.
Then there's a massive glut of similarly ranked players from then
Fogarty, Naughton, Coffield, Higgins, Bonar.
Is Naughton exceptionally better than Coffield/others? I'm all for best available, but in this instance if we're ranking Naughton 9th and a skilful running type at 10th, I hope (but happy to be convinced otherwise by Naughton fans) that we take the runner.
Stephenson would be an unbelievable get - I think most of us had written him off at least 2 months ago on the belief if he somehow made it past 5, the Saints would snap him up.
I'm not convinced on Naughton because I think we have enough developing talls and his kicking requires work. Will he be better than Adams, Cordy, Young, Collins, Roberts? Possibly but we have some young talent there and I'm not convinced Naughton is a significant enough, or guaranteed, upgrade.
Would we consider Lachlan Fogarty at 9? He's got the speed and defensive mindset to add a lot to our mix up front and may not last to 16, particularly if Brisbane select Rayner - a theory which holds merit.
The only players I think we can genuinely discount are Rayner, Dow, LDU and Brayshaw.

Naughton and Coffield are very different players. Coffield is the modern day utility at 190cm, very quick and a good kick. Naughton is the more KPP who is also adept at intercept marking. Marking is his strength with an awkward but OK kicking style the slight distraction.

I think pick 9 is too high for Lachlan Fogarty although if teams follow the Richmond model of small pressure forwards who can also hurt you on the scoreboard then he will go a lot earlier than in the 20's like many media outlets were predicting.
Regarding Naughton and our depth for KP defenders, if we say Young is a forward who played back last season because of injuries and agree that Collins isn't quite showing the progress we would have hoped for then it's Adams with his injuries, Trengove, Cordy and Roberts. A selection for Naughton doesn't seem that hard to justify despite most of us thinking we need run.
