Re: 2019 Mid Season Draft
In the WA list, Marlion Pickett might give us something a little different:
https://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-11-...fl-coach-warnsBest on Ground in the VFL Grand Final. Outside chance of playing in the big dance. Good on him for taking his chance and to Richmond for again taking opportunities that other clubs don’t see.

Stuff it. After years of Jarrad Grant, I'm calling this one even if he doesn't play for us....In the WA list, Marlion Pickett might give us something a little different:

Re: 2019 Mid Season Draft
I wonder if his story today opens up more clubs to look at mature state league gun players like him who have made the odd mistake. He seems to have hit the ground running at Richmond and was focussed on his future and not his history.
It certainly seems like the mid season draft will be players that can impact this season, or getting good kids early which wasn't the intended purpose of it. We did neither of those things this year. Hopefully a respected journo does a detailed analysis on all the PSD picks and players post the GF and give us all some insight to what work well for teams in different areas of the ladder.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Re: 2019 Mid Season Draft
I know a lot of people get excited by the the success of the likes of Marlion Pickett but I remain convinced the Mid Season draft isn't required
The number 1 pick Josh Deluca has been delisted after 6 games
#2 Mitch Riordan didn't play a senior game for the Suns
#3 Kyle Dunkley played 5 games for Melbourne
#4 Michael Knoll and #5 Lachlan Hosie didn't play for Sydney or North
#6 Ryan Gardner played just 2 games for us
#7 Will Snelling played 5 games for Essendon but hasn't got a contract for 2020 yet
#8 Jack Mayo didn't play for the Saints
#9 Cameron Sutcliffe played 5 games for Port
Dillon O'Reilly didn't play for Freo, Pickett just one game for the Tigers, John Noble 5 games for the Pies and is still uncontracted and Cody Hirst didn't play and is waiting to see if he gets another contract
Hardly a compelling result to have a mid season draftWestern Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

Re: 2019 Mid Season Draft
But it was so successful. That’s why we really need a mid season trade....

Re: 2019 Mid Season Draft
There it is in a nutshell, extend the rookie list to 6 and say to clubs to stop bitching when they cop a couple of injuries
The onus is on the clubs to balance their lists and cover some likely scenario'sWestern Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

And Hosie missed out playing in a premiership at GlenelgComment

Re: 2019 Mid Season Draft
Josh Dunkley would have certainly been picked up in this draft too, so that's not that much of an endorsement for the mid-season draft.I know a lot of people get excited by the the success of the likes of Marlion Pickett but I remain convinced the Mid Season draft isn't required
