    Pr1cks.

    Is he that good?
He’s nowhere near a pick 2 in true value so thankfully we only have to give up a mix of (later) picks to get him.

Pick 2 is worth 2,400 points.
With 20% discount it's 1,920 points which is between picks 4 and 5.

We started with pick 17 and we're going to get a highly rated tall. I'm more sunshine than storm clouds with Darcy.

The way I look at it is would I be happy with him if we had pick 2 (or pick 5). I saw him play live about 5 games (including school footy) and to be honest, I wouldn’t be.

At pick 17, I am but we’ve also forgone other opportunities to collect the picks to cover a bid. I hope he’s worth it.

There is a bit to this comment and no doubt our 'depth potential' has been compromised due to us have essentially zero draft picks last year and this. JUH had 1st pick overall talent and could have gone pick one in an un-compromised draft but probably would have been somewhere between 3-7 depending on club needs. I see Darcy the same way...little lower on the x-factor, little higher on the size/multiple position potential (though speed and general athleticism are genuine concerns)...in a 'normal' season had he smashed it at the champs he still could have gone #1 overall though.

The problem is of course that for 2-years we have fallen out of the draft...so any of those 'fast rising' picks between (in particular) 10-40 have been lost to us for a couple of years...which is (in real terms) 4x players...

We are WAY better off to have been essentially gifted the chance to draft these two players BUT as always there is an opportunity cost associated.

This would be interesting. I actually cant see how this kid doesn't make it.

He's a 190cm left footer. Big body. Runs OK. Kicks it well enough (though is one of those whose kicking is either magnificent or putrid and can swing between the two in moments not minutes) and finds the ball.

I was surprised he wasn't picked last year but hurt by no champs...played senior footy most of the year, played in the champs for WA. Extremely driven kid...

He has some deficiencies but he's 19.

                  Re: 2021 draft watch

I agree there's opportunity cost in missing a couple of mid-sections of two drafts in a row, but that's why it's important we get the most out of the kids we drafted before 2020-2021. However, if there was ever going to be two years not to have clear sight on the talent pool and actually miss out on picking from it, we've probably picked the best two.

It's why I think GWS will bid on Darcy at 2. It's a strategic move to ensure we aren't easily able to bolster an already strong list.
Why enable a strong team to gather up more talent if there's a no cost way to prevent it?

                      Re: 2021 draft watch

Cal Twomeys' Final Phantom & looks like the Dogs are not giving too much away. Interesting that he says if GWS don't bid on Darcy he could slide down to Hawks pick.

Picks: 23, 43, 44, 45, 52 (likely to use three or four selections)

The Dogs' night will be impacted by where the bid comes for father-son Sam Darcy, with the club's later picks to shuffle to the back of the draft if it comes at No.2 but maintain a solid position if the bid is a couple of spots after that. It will also be interesting where they land with pick No.23, with a trade expected to come early on Wednesday night once the draft opens, with Geelong leading the race ahead of other clubs, including Sydney, who have asked. They have nominated tall defender Cody Raak as a Next Generation Academy option after overlooking him last year, with that position a potential focus after the sudden retirement of veteran defender Easton Wood, while medium forward Paul Curtis could be considered.

Cal does a really good job indeed, Id say lock it in for GWS to nominate Darcy at 2.

Anyone seen Cutis play? Attributes could compliment our list from the sounds of it.

Pies getting a gift if Daicos not nominated until 4. Either way, trust Sam Power to do the best with whatever happens on the night.

We can't control where Darcy gets selected but we can be very confident that Power has it covered. It's the next 2 or 3 picks we have the following night that will make or break the draft for us.
I still think there is a chance Darcy goes at either pick 3 or 4.

If GWS nominates Darcy we should draft Mumford. Not to play him, just so he can’t coach them. He can clean the toilets at Whitten Oval or something.
