Someone needs to be moved on to the long term injury list for that to happen I believe.
From what I can tell a player has to sit out a minimum of 6 weeks if placed on the LTI list. So Jong and Dunkley are the likely candidates if we went down that path. Although the draft is still 2 weeks away so they could be touch and go.
Not sure if there are further rule considerations we need to be aware of?

I was thinking of those two players but didn't realise the 6 weeks rule.

I've been trying to chase this down with some AFL journos, but have hit dead ends. If the 6 week thing is correct, what happens when the injured players return? I imagine the MSD rookie picks go into some sort of 'inactive' mode where they're unable to play at AFL level but could they continue to develop at VFL level?
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

It's a good point and something I can't find answers on either. I guess the chances are during that time someone else will cop a long term injury and you swap them in and say for example Jong back out when he's fit.

Geez he’d wanna end up no good. This feels like a bad miss all for the sake of keeping Will Hayes around.
We lamented when Melbourne jumped ahead of us with Kyle Dunkley and now if Essendon get the jump on us.
We simply did not rate him high enough to make our list.

He could’ve been Cat B, beside the list. It was down to money and likelihood of developing into a player. I’d love to know if Sam Power asked for the cash and Bain’s said no. Or whether Power said no outright and didn’t ask for the money. In a year of hits to revenue, I’d assume we were pretty sensitive for the extra voluntary salary.
