    Re: 2023 Draft Watch

I think Cat B doesn't even take a list spot though?

I'm surprised we could just sign him out of the blue heading in to round 4 - it seems like the sort of thing that would have a 'signing window'.

That's why I thought we maybe would need an open spot for it.

Guys, I'm pretty sure we can ignore this and keep debating things endlessly.

That qualifies him as a cat b rookie, but it's still surprising we can make the signing mid season.

So on Luamon Lual, it sounds like we absolutely want him and are willing to trade up or shuffle picks around in order to pick him up as there's no chance he's sliding to the point where Academy players can be taken.

Has this been stated openly as I don't recall seeing it mentioned?

It's more just from ITK posters who are aware of things internally. We want Lual and highly rate him internally as we're impressed with how well he has developed at our academy.

                      Re: 2023 Draft Watch

Some observations on Jordan Croft v Sandringham

He's a tall rangy player with a Nick Larkey type frame to build on. Played CHF & assisted in the ruck I50

                      - Very mobile and good work rate. He would push up hard to the wings to link up with half backs & midfielders to give them an option, then work back hard. One one occasion he worked back from midfield so quickly he gained about 5m on his opponent to be on his own 25m out but his team mate didn't direct it to him when he should have.
                      - Has good acceleration from a standing start. This enabled to him to take front position on the lead a few times
                      - Took some excellent marks on the lead out in front of his face at speed
                      - Used his pace to apply pressure on the defenders really well for a big guy & made some great tackles
                      - Stood strongly in a tackle to dish off a handball to create a goal
                      - showed some good ground level ability. On one occasion swooping on a loose ground ball, kept his feet in the tackle fed it off and it lead to another goal
                      - Not as proficient under the high ball coming in. Thought he got lost under the ball a few times. Noticed this in ruck contests as well. He was ineffective in the ruck duels. Flew for a couple of species but they didn't stick.
                      - Also would like to see him take front position a little more. He isn't a particularly physical player at this stage.
                      - I noticed when he interchanged the calder forward line was fairly dysfunctional. He is important to their structure.

He kicked a goal and was named in the bests. Thats fair enough as he was certainly one of the better big men on the ground. While it wasn't a dominant display & he didn't have the scoring impact himself, he got involved and was influential a number of times & created goal scoring possibilities. As stated above when he was off the ground the forward line didn't function as well. The other Calder talls had minimal impact.

I hope he makes the metro team!

Father/Son. Wherever he?s bid we can match. (Croft). Lual is Pick 40, yep.

He's very slight in build and I don't think that would be the right move if we draft him. I'd be hoping he can become a defender for us.

A Tasmanian who is plying his trade for the Dragons, Sanders has had a prolific start to 2023. He does his best work inside stoppages, extracting the ball and feeding outside runners, and he has the strength to get his hands away through tackles. Sanders hasn't proved positional flexibility and doesn't have a huge athletic profile, but he's an elite extractor of the footy.

I've been impressed what I've seen of Sanders. Gets plenty of it and could fall around our pick if we are targeting midfielders.
