    Re: 2023 Draft Watch

To be fair to Reid, why wouldn't he try and manipulate the draft...if he thinks he can cause enough 'doubt' within WC that he could go to Hawthorn or North instead and is determined to stay 'home' (lol as he's not exactly growing up in Prahran!!) then why not have a go.

The clubs and recruiters know how it works.
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

Well going to North might not be a great thing for him while Perth is a great city and WC a strong club.
If West Coast rate him at pick 1 they should select him.

If they think he's #1 I'm sure they'll pick him. No harm in Reid having a crack at getting where he wants to go though!!

Well, you could argue that last time West Coast traded down to get the WA player in the first round who was less highly rated, he kicked a clutch goal in the dying stages of the 2018 GF and won then the flag.

The no 1 pick is hardly ever the best kid in the draft anyway. Especially this year with Jed Walter off-limits.

He's normally around the mark so it's interesting to see he has Lual at 22. Until the last game against Metro where he performed well I didn't think he look good enough at that higher level.

When the likes of Delean, Windsor and Harrop are not being mentioned in the top 30 it highlights there is some depth this year.

A lot of variation in rankings too.
I'm guessing we'll have about 35 "I can't believe he slipped to us" quotes over draft nights.

                      Re: 2023 Draft Watch

Here is a list of a few players I like that haven't been in the post champs chatter all that much. This is with a purely Bulldogs perspective.

Kade de la Rue - Vic Country - A very smart winger/half forward who is an excellent user of the ball on both feet. The kind of player you want the ball in his hands when going I50. Kicks goals.

Will Dawson - Vic Country - Caught my earlier this year playing for Gippsland as a forward/ruckman. What impressed me most was his performance at full back for VC. Took some very strong marks v Allies. Great size at 200cm and one of the youngest in the draft pool.

Jack Delean - SA - Small forward with lots of tricks. Touted as a 1st rounder but seems to have slipped off the radar for some reason. Kicks goals in many different ways from long bombs outside 50, tight angle boundary line conversions, snaps and crumbing goals. He can also take a good mark. Kicks lots of goals.

Arie Schoenmaker - Tas - Big 194cm utility. Not sure of his best position. Mainly used in defence but moved up the ground for the Aliies playing wing and forward and was very impressive. Can hit the scoreboard when swung forward. There's something about him! Can kick the ball into outer space.

Caleb Windsor - Vic Metro - Speedy winger who is gathering attention. Looks perfectly suited to our needs. Good pace with a nice kick. Links up very well with the inside guys.

Cooper Simpson - Vic Country - busy inside midfielder who is also good on the outside. Highly touted at the start of the year and was impressive with Dandenong til injury struck. May yet move back into first round contention. Would be a great get if he slips.

Charlie Harrop - Vic Metro - lively medium sized forward who had slipped past my notice but stamped himself during the champs. Kicked 3 v a rampaging Country to keep Metro in it for a while. Brings effort and intensity along with some nice finishing.

Harvey Johnston - Vic Metro - classy medium forward and/or midfielder. It will be interesting to see how his draft fortunes fair. probably doesn't have any outstanding traits or x factor but is reliable, works hard and does most things well.

Phoenix Gothard - Allies - a clever small forward who knows where the goals are. Good finishing skills but also creates and sets up. There are quite a few good small forwards this year so others might be ahead of him in the pecking order at this stage. Could be a bargain but if he finishes the year strongly could push up the order.

Heath Ollington - Tas - 190cm dynamic half forward. I can see a lot of upside with him. a natural forward who is strong and has a good all round game at ground level or in the air. Can hit leading targets as well as hit the scoreboard.

There were numerous rucks who showed a bit that should appeal to us as late selections or rookies. will comment on them later in the season.

majority of the players I have mentioned above are forward half players who specialise. Its is the area of our list that I think is weakest so I focussed a bit on players who can deliver I50 or can score themselves.

                              Re: 2023 Draft Watch

Good article from Ben Waterworth on the state of play post champs. He seems to have a good grasp on the prospects for this years draft.

"Athletic 200cm key forward – and 2023 Western Bulldogs father-son prospect – Jordan Croft booted four goals from three champs games and has lots of fans,"

"There’s also growing excitement around exciting GWV Rebels defender Luamon Lual, who got better with every champs game he played and finished on a high with a spectacular performance against Vic Metro, including a breathtaking third-quarter goal. A speedy and balanced 181cm prospect who provides explosive run off half-back yet is just as adept defending one-on-one, Lual looms as an ideal mid-sized backman for AFL clubs.

The Western Bulldogs, who are linked to Lual via their Next Generation Academy, are hoping that club will be them. But they’ll only be able to match a bid on him if it comes within the top 40 picks — and considering the post-champs hype around Lual from clubs, it seems highly unlikely he’ll still be on the board by then."
