I'm projecting that we will pick up two players before we match a bid for father-son prospect Croft and then later NGA candidate Lual.
In the mix would be George Stevens who is a 189cm defender/midfielder and who also trained with Croft and Lual with us in January.
Other players might consist of midfielder types like Harry Demattia, Darcy Wilson and Koltyn Tholstrup.
It's not a particularly strong draft at the top of the order but I think there is a lot of depth to it.
I'm not as sold on Stevens as others are. As a defender I'm not sure he's quick enough to keep up with the medium types who play at AFL level. As a mid, he's getting heaps of possies against kids but that seems to be due to size - will that translate to AFL level when he no longer has that advantage?
He's very good, but I think 'transferrable skills' are important otherwise you end up like Charlie Constable. Gun junior, but that advantage just hasn't transferred well to AFL.

I get that and your comparison could be spot on. I'd hope that his recovery from his injury will mean we haven't seen the best of him yet.

It’s a good point because over the years I’ve read how draft picks are chosen on how much improvement they have .
You will find more skinny kids get picked because they see huge improvement, a manchild in under 18s is sometimes thought of as a negative as they have reached peak body size and smaller kids will eventually catch up.
Those manchilds are sometimes left to play at lower levels to see how they go against adult bodies and if they adapt and still perform.
A really good final game of the championship last Sunday with Vic Country beating Vic Metro despite a 4 goal return from the Wizard Nick Watson.
Some of the players that may not have been mentioned much but stood out as footballers with a lot of ability include:
Tom Anastasopoulos who's dangerous around the goals.
Charlie Harrop is a rangy half forward flanker or winger. Very composed user of the footy and knows how to kick goals.
Caleb Windsor is also a winger or half forward who's quick and skillful.
Oskar Smartt is a small forward and is good at reading the options around him.
While there is still a lot of footy to be played I think we will start to see the order of the draft lists start to take shape.
The draft is just a touch light on at the top order but I tend to think it runs deep.

Josh Smillie in the 2024 draft.
Seriously, if he was available this year I'd hope we draft him. 190cm+ and looks at home in the VM rotations. Going to be a monster
Axe posted yesterday in the FS thread a HUN article that Croft was slipping. Twomey I?m pretty sure had him 19 last month. That?s tracking in the wrong direction. So he?s at 13 here, but with two matched bids before him our first pick is (if we make finals) 14!
I posted a DP trade last night in the FS thread - if this is consensus view (pick 13 before our picks) then we might have to go hard at it:
GCS: 6 & 24
For
DOGS: 12, 16 & 34
GCS gets an extra 381 DPs. We get a pick in ahead of 13. Maybe land a Duursma type. Then draft point trade 24 into points on Croft. Hope Lual falls passes pick 40.
Twomey starts to get pretty accurate at this time of the year. If he still has Croft riding despite a slow champs then his mail must be pretty strong. So we have two options as Croft is too good to pass on, plus the discount.
We trade up to GCS first two picks (which are for sale) for our first three (maybe a future pick to take a good player off them too for salary cap relief and opening a list spot for them). Or, we trade the picks for good, proven and established players in their prime or coming into it.
But hopefully the wide view of Croft and his ranking gets him sliding. But we need a contingency.
