If Dunkley wins a premiership in his first season (or even a Norm Smith), it might actually shame us into action to change elements of our game plan and preparation that desperately need to change if we are to improve and contend again.

Yeah, we're a bunch of slow learners.

I'm no gambler but I wonder what odds you'd get on him snagging a flag, a Norm Smith and a B&F because none of those things are unfeasibly unlikely.

They'll trade one of those end of 2024 1st rounders for something this year as well

How can they trade next year's picks if they are under review next year? It makes no sense.

I'd say the idea is for one of them is locked in as theirs and the other might be conditional but the AFL have incentivsed them to get rid of them now and they will.

Well yeah. If I was told I could have 1 million guaranteed today or 1 million tomorrow that might not exist tomorrow, I know what I'm taking. Why didn't they just give them 3 bloody first rounders this year? Think I'm just about done with this league. It's a joke.

                      According to Callum Twomey:

This means the Roos will hold four first-round picks this year (after McKay compo) and three next year after taking two last year. Nine first-round picks over a three-year period.
This really is way over the top.

                        Simple AFEL Logic.

They want to meddle and get the best press in the most states.

                        Pick 1, 20 & F1 (19-20) > WCE Pick 2

North get Reid - great Vic media help 17th
WCE get Curtin - great WA media help 18th

                        North 1, 3 & 15
                        WCE 2, 20, 21, F1

WCE buy Pick 11 and later pick off GCS for 20 & 21 (helping the other basket case, GCS, great QLD media)

                        North 1, 3 & 15 (F1 - the other one in play)
                        WCE 2, 11, F1
GCS get all kids without deficit (net 900 extra draft points from Pick 5!)

A lot of great media and support of three basket cases.

NINE first rounders!!? That's verging on new team sort of levels. They should have just shipped the club off to tassie and gotten all done with.

Until the next basket cases show up because they've been deprived of their deserved picks for years. Not to mention the compounding impact once Tassie compromises the draft further. Short sighted comp.

Edit: the next basket cases will show up because they've been deprived of picks but also decided to gut their lists knowing full well the afel would bail them out with 9 first round picks in 3 seasons.

Short sighted is what the AFEL specialise in.
