I don't think you need to be quick to be a good key defender, however the best are elite at positioning and reading the play and flight of the ball.
Whether Buss is good enough to compensate for a lack of speed is the question.👍 3Leave a comment:

I love your optimism, and genuinely hope you are right.
To become an AFL player, he has to improve:
- Slow, both off the mark and top speed, slow to stop, and change direction. He will struggle to change these to a strength
- Still skinny through the chest and hips, he has so much work to do, to get grown man strong.
I have no issue with the draft selection though, I think most teams would have taken him, where we did.
I don't see it with Buss. Agree we had to pick him there.Leave a comment:

The bloke left Gold Coast and arrived at Carlton and was promptly suspended because of extra curricula activities. Took more time off mid-season because of MH. Carlton have asked him to explore his options after only one season.

Buss is a tall that will get better as he matures. Yesterday I noticed he ran down the ground calling for the ball, but his positioning was way off, and each time the kicker didn't kick the ball to him (*thank god). He will learn as he grows and I am confident he will be ok.
Don't forget Jones didn't come good until he was mid 20s.

Talking to a Saints fan, he reckons Carlton trade pick 35 for Chesser, & 44 for KhamisLeave a comment:

Baker - 100% Resign
Scott - Okay, either way
JJ - Sign, but not too flat if they cut
Jones - Sign, but not shattered if he leaves. I am still 100% confident Buss is not as good a player as Jones in 12 months. All depends on who else we are bringing in. I would prefer Jones for 1 more year, over May.
Coffield - Cut
Poulter - Cut
Buku - Trade is the right thing for all, if Buss is picked ahead of you, time to get out at his age

He's been in the system for a long time for just 41 senior games so yes he's impatient for a regular spot.
He was effectively a cat B rookie for us back in 2018 so he has completed 7 years at the club.
The knock on him has been his endurance and that he's isn't as competitive as he should be when the footy is below his knees.Leave a comment:

Can't begrudge Buku, he's hardly put a foot wrong with us and is in a position to make a decision that strengthens his longevity in the game and increases his opportunities at senior level. He'll play good football wherever he gets a chance and IMO is likely to continue to improve, Carlton will benefit from him moving across.
It's a loss for us in that 3rd tall, swingman role and depth in that sense. He showed strong signs at times this year and IMO has some real value, so while we should support him with his request, the investment into him and what he can offer deserves some value coming back the other way. We don't have to be silly, like Essendon supporters and be looking for a first round pick for everyone that leaves but it'd be nice to facilitate a trade for a good servant and get something that helps us back the other way instead of just tossing around late picks.

Good luck to Buku he is making the right call to move on, a 4 year deal is what he needs.

Buku has officially requested a trade to Carlton.
Shame because I like him and he keeps improving. What do we think we'll ask for? He's very good depth, versatile, and contracted. I know his 'worth' on production doesn't warrant a second round pick but anything beyond that, I'm not sure it's worth it for us.👍 1Leave a comment:
