Like you, I was wary of picking him up, but very glad we did. Been great for the club!

Wonderful pick up and has added plenty to the club during his time. Hopefully he goes out with a VFL flag and then a long coaching career beckons.

Agreed, he's been informally coaching a while now I've heard. He was part of a Bulldogs coaching immersion day in February this year so perhaps he's already been earning his points? Be nice if we have a role for him.

I think coaching will be the natural follow on.

Hopefully we can find a spot for him.

What a great addition to the club. Absolute goer. Will never forget the Charlie Cameron run down in 2021.

It's time but I can only thank Doc for his fantastic career and service with us. My absolute favourite moment of his was in the last minute of the 2021 SF against Brisbane - he was stuck in deep water, isolated one-out in D50 against Charlie Cameron, but he managed to halve the aerial contest and then get it out of bounds against a white-hot player who was at his absolute peak and probably 5 yards quicker than him.

I loved that moment so much.

EDIT - it wasn't a marking contest but a one-on-one groundball in D50, which is insanely better against someone like Cameron in his prime

Taylor Duryea has announced his retirement.

The Western Bulldogs defender this afternoon told his teammates that the 2025 season would be his last at AFL level.

Duryea, 34, has played 219 games at Hawthorn and the Dogs after being taken at pick 69 in the 2009 national draft.

He became a two-time premiership player at the Hawks, playing in the 2014 and 2015 flag-winning sides.

Duryea was traded to the Dogs ahead of the 2019 season and proved an excellent pick-up across seven seasons.

He played in the Bulldogs’ 2021 Grand Final loss to Melbourne.

Coffield was a good player, now he's a long way back sadly. I doubt we keep him on.
One of those guys that would be a perfect VFL captain.

For list changes, I’d probably be looking at:
    Jones - retire
    Duryea - retire
    Scott - delist
    Poulter - delist
    Coffield - delist

If JJ and Treloar want to go another year I’d be supportive of both and expect at least one of them will.

Poulter nearly played himself into a new contract but suspect Baker gets a nod ahead of him based on form over the last few weeks. Poulter just doesn’t have “it” for tenacity and while we’ve tried to find a spot for him as he has natural ability it hasn’t quite worked out.

Scott is unlucky in some ways - he’s had injury troubles which have limited him and when healthy his VFL form has seemed solid without being spectacular (based on my interpretation of reports).

Arty Jones probably gets one more year because we don’t have anyone with his wheels. If the draft crop was deeper than touted he’d perhaps be next in line.

Unfortunately it hasn’t worked out. He’s just not going to be anything better than a 5th option for us as a medium+ defender and he can’t play any other roles at this stage of his career and injury history.

We might not get a prospect as “ready” to play AFL if required but I would prefer we roll the dice and see what we can find. The one caveat is if we lose more than Jones in our medium+ defender list.

Well really it depends if we bring a defender or 2 in, if we don’t well I don’t see what he’s done wrong in the vfl that would suggest he shouldn’t get another year to keep a bit of depth down back. Interrupted start to the year feel he’s built as the years gone on. Can play tall or small as well. Likely jones and Duryea will finish up as well so what do you suggest?
