I'm cutting...
Arty - can pressure but not enough tricks, in a similar position to McNeil and VDM, they can all pressure but, at the end of the day, are they actually good enough? They can work hard, but do they work smart?
Duryea - gold watch
JJ - Bullgod forever, gold watch
Baker - just not up to it
Poulter (if OOC) - ditto Baker
Scott (if OOC) - i like Scott and a very neat player, but his body and concussions.
I'd even consider delisting Gardner too even with a year left, surely he's on minimum?
Coffield, Liam Jones, Treloar and Libba 1 year deals, they can become part of our depth and can have an impact if their bodies hold up especially the older three if they want to play on minimum chips, in fact as of this week Busslinger is now taking Liam's spot, and Liam has to earn it back if he's up to it for the rest of the season and beyond, Buss will time to time fluff a few, but then so did Lake and his constant brain fades, but i've seen enough at VFL level that he's always in the right positions and get's plenty of it, he was BOG last week v Brissy.

Keep Libba for another year.
With Treloar give him mimimum wage and $20,000 a game. If he plays every game he earns decent coin. If he injured for most of the year it costs us stuff all. If he dont like that, he can walk. We have paid too much in last few years for no play. Smith, Jamarra, Weightman and Treloar. Surely we need to be careful with someone like Treloar where we know he cannot fulfill his playing duties. Player managers keep wanting to lock them in whether they play or injured for the full season. We seem to have bad luck recently.Leave a comment:

So out of contract we have
Libba
Adz
Liam Jones
Arty
Coffield
Duryea
JJ
Baker
I think it's good timing indeed for the bottom 4 can't see them on a list next year.
Does dads army at Collingwood influence our decision on the senior citizens? Arty I would like to give 1 more year, but can understand if we let him go.
Libba and Adz get another year each if medical signs off on it. I think Sellwood has shown enough to deserve another 12 months and a full pre season, assuming he has approached everything professionally.
Arty and Coffield next most likely to get one year deals.
JJ, Baker, Poulter, Scott - all depth players who have struggled to impact when they've come in at AFL this season.
I think Liam Jones and Duryea are no chance.👍 1Leave a comment:

He would likely be okay signing a 1 year deal so that's something.
In 4 seasons he's had 17 senior games and the last few of them have been either starting as the sub or being subbed off.
I just about agree with your other suggestions but Coffield would have to show something more before the end of the season. I'm 50/50 on Liam.Leave a comment:

Lipinski isn't better for them, he's just older than when he was with us.
The 'depth' of our midfield with Bont, Libba and Macrae, then Treloar as well, has meant that we have lost some really good players in Lipinski, Dunkley and Baz because they wanted to be the big dogs. They were all good players with us as well.
McCreey and Lipinski are classic examples of this. Put them in other teams and they aren’t as good. Think Chris Dawes and Lyndon Dunn the other way.👍 2Leave a comment:

Footy’s salary cap explained and which clubs are ready to strike this off-season
BULLDOGS
The Dogs stars are all on excellent deals but the Dogs will have saved on players 15-40 on the list given many are role players on modest deals. The Bont is a million dollar man while Tim English and Aaron Naughton are close, Jamarra Ugle-Hagan is on around $800,000 this year and Ed Richards has just signed on again on a big extension. But while Sam Darcy’s four-year extension signed late last year is on excellent money with enough built-in incentives he’s nowhere near his earning peak yet and Ugle-Hagan will be gone next year. They moved on from deals for senior leaders Jackson Macrae (his last two years would have been back-ended) and Caleb Daniel. So even when they sign up Bontempelli again on a small fortune they will have space for a Zac Butters type at the end of next year.Leave a comment:

Agreed, not saying we should try and get him just that he'd be perfect for us and what we lack. For the draft watchers is there anyone similar to him this year?Leave a comment:

Worth creating a thread on its own, but our list management hasn't been good enough over a period of time. We have and continue to waste prime Bont years.
A few quick takes;
- How have we not planned for the decline of Jones, Duryea and to a lesser extent JJ? You could raise Busslinger, but like, you don't play him... Is Jacques a JJ replacement? I don't know, but it's years late. And Duryea? Uh, Gallagher who was playing mainly mid until this year? It's really poor management to have a list that could otherwise contend, all because we have neglected issues staring us in the face.
- The decision to take Sanders and Croft. They still have time, but Sanders refuses to kick the ball and Croft is struggling to get a touch in the VFL. I wasn't overly convinced on Croft at the time and I'm genuinely concerned now. Sanders looks a neat player at best but Curtin looks like everything we need and he went a few picks later....
- No ruck depth. We're lucky English has been so durable. Seriously. We have a 19 y.o as our only depth.... What kind of risk mitigation is that?
There are other examples but our list management team should be under fire right now.
Jones was always a short term solution, we all knew that. Busslinger was supposed to get up to speed to be his back-up. He's close but not quite there yet.
I agree that one of Duryea and JJ probably should have been moved on at the end of last season.
As for the ruck man, there has been a few of us hoping that we would bring in a Jordon Sweet replacement as L.Smith is a way off the pace at the moment.
I'm not in the slightest concerned about Sanders, Croft and of course Freijah. Sure they have some flaws but I'd argue that there are very few perfect footballers in their 2nd season.
It seems like had to go with Sanders after missing on Watson because of the uncertainty of Bailey Smith staying.
We might be able in hindsight call out better options but Sanders was a solid selection and it's not really a list management problem.
We have taken a bit of a short term hit over the last 2 years by investing in 5 players via the National Draft rather than topping up with some shorter term fixes.
Some of the problems we have faced is that we have lost some quality players and despite our endeavors in the market we haven't been able to get some of the players we target.
I'll add a bit more to this soon.👍 1Leave a comment:

Agree on Buss, however I think he’ll surely get a good run soon. Also agree on ruck depth but I think Bevo will only play certain types and I’m guessing there just hasn’t been one available.
Our ability to bring in ready made players has been pretty good.
Marra & Weightman have hit us hard this year, one or both playing well and surely we’d have won a few of those close ones.
Treloar injuries have hurt but I figure when you go in with older players like Libba and Treloar that’s the chance you take.
Regarding Sanders, haven’t we changed his position recently and has that coincided with his drop in form? His form line was very promising only a few games ago. I’ve still got faith he’ll be a gem for us.Last edited by josie; 20-07-2025, 07:51 PM.👍 1Leave a comment:
