Yep, he needs to get both those picks right.

As much as our draft position made it unlikely I think we all dared to dream that we could get an elite talent like Martin and or Hogan on the list

We just need to get good players at 5 &6 - which really should be do-able

I know they go on each year about how a draft is deep or shallow, but I never believe there aren't 10 good kids every single year without fail - its just a question of identifying them

I had warmed to the idea of getting Martin but I'm not shattered by missing out on him. I'm comfortable that we put our best offer forward and in an action sense we just got outbid.

Looking forward to the draft to see which two youngsters we can get to out club and turn them into 200 game players.

We should be able to find two really good players, they may not have the reputations as the junior superstars, but it all starts again once they are in the main league

I am not overly concerned either. 17 year olds are always going to be a bigger risk than 18/19 year olds, even though Martin is seemingly exceptional, but then again have a look at Toy?

Surely we can pick up some guns at 5 and 6, we need some future A Graders.

This is what we have to hope now, unfortunately. I had warmed to the idea of paying a heavy price to get Martin, but part of me was also quietly releived when Gold Coast offered up pick 2. Spending a whole year holding my breath hoping we'd made a good choice was not that appealing.

Who do you think will fall to 5 & 6? Will Toumpas and Garlett still be available?

Jack Viney rates Toumpas very highly, when they asked him who the Dees may consider with picks 3 and 4, he mentioned how professional was Jimmy.

Way beyond my level of expertise BAD. MJP and Bulldogsman seem to know a lot more about the player ranking than most of us (and me in particular.) Based on what the clubs have said, it is hard to believe that Toumpass would still be there at 5, but stranger things have happened (just usually not to us.)

I'm shattered but the club did everything they could. Got screwed over by the AFL. It's a disgrace that GC can get these picks.

Exactly. Why should they be given an even bigger advantage over the competition. Haven't they got enough already?

It's a big call to make Martin effectively the number 2 pick this year, and Melbourne look set to make Hogan the number 3 pick. I'm starting to feel more comfortable that we missed out. Is pick 2 for Martin a reach Topdog?

dont know if it is a reach or not. I know it shouldn't have been allowed

Don't forget that GWS still get to use whatever is traded away for Martin and Hogan.

My view is that each club should only have been allowed to trade for one of the 4 MD picks over the 2 years, i.e. GC and Adelaide should have been ineligible to participate in this year's MD.
