WILL DAYLE GARLETT GET A CHANCE?

In his favour is the fact that there aren't all that many dynamic players in this year's group, but it was disappointing to hear that he didn't show for one of his club interviews this week.

It might have been us. Who knows.

Hasn't he stood them up previously ?
Must really not want to go there.

He stood them up a few months ago. He was described as being in an unfit state to meet them.

He missed another interview with a club last week at the draft combine.

It sounds like he's not doing himself any favours, If your committed to play at the highest level you would have a ambulance take you to a meeting.

If he gets down to our bottom pick is he worth a shot. Could you have some type of get out clause in his contract.

I've been reading strong whispers GCS and North very keen on their second round picks.

That's how I read it, and if true, highlights why clubs aren't keen on him ... but I am sure we will get an influx of posts about how he's only young and should be drafted anyway

In that case if we get him I hope he is of sound character and great work ethic.
If they get him I hope his bad boy story keep flowing.

Yep, looking forward to reading them.

I doubt there'll be much scrambling between clubs to pick him up, but if he can avoid any major muck ups between now and the draft I think someone will take the chance. 7 weeks however is a very long time for someone who's only young

Could be a matter of Port spreading rumours to keep his price low.

I wouldnt mind Billings with pick 4 tbh. Not sold on Kelly. I think he would be a terrific outside midfielder but his inside game is a major concern.

Scharenburg and Bontempelli would be my next choices assuming Aish and Boyd go 1 and 2

I wouldn't say it's a major concern, it's not that much worse then that of Macrae's when he was drafted in my opinion. He still goes in when he has to and is still quite clean and composed in contested situations. Tackles well. I think he would compliment our midfield just about perfectly.

I'm a massive Billings fan btw, however even I admit he's probably not the greatest fit for us. We already have Hunter, Dickson and Higgins to fill his role.

                            Good points.

Im just worried that Kelly struggled to impact the inside game against 18 year-olds. How is he going to handle AFL bodies? Obviously plenty of time to improve though however he doesnt look to have the body type where he will put on a bit of mass

Agree on Billings. Guess it comes down to best available vs needs

I could live with Hunter and Billings locking down the two HFF's for the next 10 years

I was just reading Billings profile on the AFL site. This quote sounds appealing.

                                PLAYS LIKE
Think Nathan Brown when he was in his prime for the Western Bulldogs and Richmond. Billings is of a similar shape and prowess, and likes to snap goals, push into the midfield, and light games up. Port Adelaide drafted Chad Wingard as a half-forward two years ago at pick No.6 and Billings is equally as strong overhead when the ball is up for grabs.
