The only thing that will help us is we have a high pick ourselves. But that wont satisfy GWS IMO
Do you think they Will pick Boyd anyway if no one wants to part with any senior quality?
I can't see any clubs offering established quality senior players, it just goes against building culture and loyalty at your club. If your prepared to part ways with ESP's for a kid with potential then it doesn't send a good message to the other players.

No clubs were prepared to do a deal with GWS for mini drafts picks with player trades, and apart from enticing players with big $$$'s, it's only fringe or players on the way out that have moved up north.

I think the best anyone will offer is reasonable fringe players or players that want out and maybe draft picks.

If no club gives up an elite player (which i think will be the case) then i think we have a good shot at it as we have an early pick. This is of course assuming GWS wants to trade and can get who they want at pick 3 or 4. But i dont see this happening, they will keep pick 1.....who they take remains the key. Will be very very interesting. If they dont land Buddy, Boyd will go to GWS for sure. If they do, then there is the possibility they take Scharenburg who they have great need for position-wise. That means Boyd falls to pick 2/Melbourne who you would think would also pass him up as they have an abundance of forwards and desperately need mids. Boyd then falls to pick 3, which increasingly looks like the Saints will have. They are in need of backs and mids too but i think they take Boyd anyway. This would be extremely frustrating for us as we would mostly likely be 1 win off pick 3. That win being us beating st kilda for the first time in 9 tries. and look what it might cost us......

The 'only' way we land Boyd is a trade. And it will be giving up a lot. It's up to the club to weigh the risk/reward.

Knowing our luck this would happen.

Spot on. I probably favour Aish at this time for us but an argument can easily be made for both players being well and truly in our mix (I know you'd probably lean the other way to me T&T!).

The more I think about it, the more I'm against trading for pick 1. If we can get Boyd at our selection, great, but if not I'm more than comfortable with the other options we'd be able to snare. I'm not convinced we need to sell the farm (or trade our best players) to try and get Boyd - let's let some other club sell their soul on the hope Boyd becomes an elite level player at AFL level. Chances are we'll finish down the bottom end of the ladder next year and have a chance to go for one of the under-age KPF's who'll be available then. If we ultimately landed Aish this year and Clem Smith next year, I'd be over the moon with that too because that would add 2 10+ year elite midfielders to our list which is still the most important area to have high end quality for mine.
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

Could not agree more. Have been against trading for pick one since GWS spoke of it. I strongly believe we need elite midfielders first and foremost.

Way off topic, but I've seen a bit of Matt Scharenbergs 15 yo brother Jonty play footy this year. Matt may not even be the best footballer in his family

And therEs some great points above. To get the number one draft pick we are basically giving up our number three or four pick and one of our (cough) guns. Is Boyd that much better? And I'd be rapt if we got either of Aish or Scharenberg.

If the ladder positions for the bottom 4 stay as they are (and they probably will) then the odds of us getting either Aish or Scharenberg are pretty slim aren't they? We would need someone to take Kelly in the top 3 - Melbourne are a possibility to do this I guess.

Presuming we have pick 4 - who are the best candidates if Boyd, Aish and Scharenberg are gone.

I like Billings myself. I don't mind Kelly either.

We should put a bid on F/S Luke McDonald as well.

Billings would come into contention, although you'd think we'd go with Kelly if he was still there.

Sheed would have to be another midfield runner that'd be in the mix along with Crouch.

Yep. No way Norf should get him with pick 26.
