I'm not sure why there is the 12 month requirement for casuals, it is a bit unfair. Then there are part time and long term casuals who will be getting a pay rise if their ordinary wages were below $1,500 per fortnight. Apparently the UK style scheme wasn't compatible with our wage and social security systems.

The NZ scheme is not for 80%. The subsidy is actually significantly less than ours. They have asked employers to still pay 80%, however they are not required to do so.

At this stage the UK scheme is only for 3 months compared to our 6 (although it might be extended).

It's not perfect but it very good news for millions of people out of work or on significantly reduced hours.

Are you referring to casual workers with less than 12 months service missing out, as that's the only significant group I can see affected?
Isn’t it 12 months for all employees?

The curse is dead.

Our national attitude towards the people who often fill those jobs (young people, women, and those in and out of work for whatever reason) is really poor. And that's not a political statement, it's a fact, they're a complete afterthought within the decision making process.

With the $1500 limit we're much closer to the US in our thinking in this area than we used to be and the UK hasn't strayed as far as we have. Maybe that's why we're called 'straya!

Ok ok, thank you everybody I'll let myself out...…..and don't forget to try the veal.
TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

It's veally good!

It's a Japo-Scandinavian imitation veal substitute, and I'm afraid that's the last slice, anyway.

Great to hear of 70 ppl getting taken on. Any time I hear of companies taking on people right now - it is great news. Even if only temporary to get some folks through.

Re: Coronavirus Info & Helpful Direction

Update here . We opened up a nightshift so it helps with the social distancing a little, I have gone on to it, haven’t done it for years and at the moment it’s only until April 26, I’m backing it’s extended.
The 70 haven’t started but interviews are going on.
The rush has calmed down as the supermarkets are now catching up and the silly hoarders have slowed, blame them for the price hikes, they gave shops the perfect storm to do it.
I expect us to get busy stocking Dan Murphy and BWS as people start drinking at home.
The problem we are now getting is receiving stock to send to stores.
If I was a teenager looking for a job , first opportunity I would be doing logistic courses, life will change after this eg a lot will stick with online shopping and employees will have many working from home in the future.

Probably one of the positives of this horror is that hopefully employers have realised people can work from home
