Sorry to hear about your son KT31, as previously mentioned, there are a couple of great Doggy examples of how you can recove from such injuries.
Reading trough this thread, there seemed to be a bit of a travel vibe, wondering if anyone has been to Japan?
Me and my girlfriend are headed there at the end of September (leave after GF back before Cox Plate were my only rules) and are looking for some good stuff to do. So far all we know is that we are there for 3 weeks, that we fly in and out of Tokyo, and we are getting a bullet train pass for the time we are there. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We have travelled a lot all through Europe, America's, but this is our first time in Asia, so pretty keen on traditional, cultural stuff. I know we are going in the wrong season as the cherry blossoms won't be blooming, but that is in April and there are Bulldogs to be watched!

I have been to Japan many times and once did 5 weeks there.
Highlights for me were:
* Kyoto - a must see place with the temples.
* Nara - not far from Kyoto
* Mount Koya - Stay in a Buddist Temple, hike during the day around the trails.
* Nikko - North of Tokyo but again a great place to visit.
*Hakone - if you want to go up into the mountains, very beautiful. Stay in a traditional inn
* Miyajima Torii - On Islands off Hiroshima.
One thing you should do is plan the whole trip as its not that easy getting around Japan and pre book accommodation as there are 120 Million Japanese and they are always on the move.
I also went down to Nagasaki and back around through Bepu, but not sure if you have time to do it all.
Hope that helps.

I'm off to Singapore tomorrow, looking forward to catching up with a few mates who live there and escaping the Melbourne winter.
Lived in Singapore for almost three years as an expat. Enjoyed the job but hated the humidity.
Pretty good night life there as I am sure your friends will know about as they are not evident to the casual visitor. The food is also very good in Singapore and you can get a variety of Asian and Western meals. Not a lot to do during the daytime as after two days you have seen everything.
Have fun.

Thanks BAD, this is my 4th time there (I really enjoy Singapore). Got a few things I want to do, a favourite restaurant for a meal, some chilli crabs another night, a customary sling at Raffles, a few nights out which should be fun (as you say, my friends should know some good venues) and a bit of shopping - there's some talk about throwing on the boots for an expats footy game on Saturday too (we'll see how we go!).

Any recommendations food-wise?
Sounds like about right in Singapore. Although I was there a few months ago on business, I haven't lived there since the late 90's. I know there are plenty of great venues but I couldn't say the ones I know are still around, so sorry no. I too love the Chilli grabs down East Coast Park way, but I am sure your mates will fix you up with some good food.

Hammering home my sense of manhood by knocking over a Laphroaig Tripple Wood, after successfully completing my first evening of kettle BBQ'ing.
Picked up a Weber One Touch Gold yesterday, and had some folk over for dinner tonight. On the menu was pork spare ribs for starters with a nice spiced rub, rib-eye (basted with a mustard and vinegar number) with roasted potatoes for mains and a caramalised pineapple thing for dessert (I hate warm pineapple, so I went straight to more red wine).
It all went well. The smokey flavours were great, and as a gas grilling man as a rule I didn't think I'd pick it up as quickly as I did. It was bloody great.
Didn't know how to cool the BBQ down, so figured I should just throw the charcoal over the fence and let the neighbours deal with it. No biggie
TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

Beef basted in vinegar is very underrated.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

I love my charcoal Weber, have had one for a very long time. Best way to roast and grill with all the fat dripping down. Threw in a couple of Spatchcocks last night and done within 45 minutes or so.
With the charcoal, just close off all the vents, and put the lid on and close the vent as well and soon it will cool down. You will be able to reuse the charcoal pieces that are left.
