Third test Australia V South Africa - Adelaide

We go to Adelaide with Australia facing our first ever white wash on home soil...worrying stuff.

Pretty keen to hear the XI you guys would select. Mine is:

    Warner
    Burns
    Khawaja
    Smith
    Kurtis Patterson
    Ferguson
    Wade
    Starc
    Hazlewood
    Lyon
    Bird

    12th Bancroft

I thought about playing Bancroft but his own form swayed me. It's not a team to come into without recent runs.

I've gone with Patterson over Handscomb for the middle order. Patterson is in better form and has a tighter defensive makeup

Time to get the good bloke swagger back:

Shane Watson (Need another big hitting all rounder, he's still on the super circuit so he's in fit enough)
Shaun Marsh (Gives us a left hand, hand hand opening combo. Pretty impressive by me as a selector to engineer such a result)
Nic Maddinson (Swings hard. Super impressive New South Welshman)
Steve Smith (contractually obliged to be in this team, sorry to name you Steve)
    Moisés Henriques (Needs no justification)
Mitch Marsh (Future of this team)
Dan Christian (We need some all rounder experience, and he played for SA so he knows the ground)
Brad Haddin (bestest bloke ever. Better keeper and better bat. Did I mention best bloke ever, and brings experience & leadership)
Mennie (He slow-medium trundles looks so brilliant and dangerous)
Alaistar McDermott (his dad was pretty good. That's good enough for me as a selector using the Marsh method of selecting)
Agar (We need tailenders who can bat)

Can this team beat our recent average of about 100 runs an innings that incorporate a collapse. I think so.

Pretty close to what I'd actually do. So maybe, my last post maybe closer to what they do.

        I don't care

        For the first time ever

At least our ordinary mid 80's teams had blokes willing to fight like AB, Boonie, Geoff Marsh, Merv and a young Steve Waugh who bowled medium paced bouncers in succession at Viv Richards. This team has got no guts, no pride and no idea.

I would be playing White, heaps of runs and older head on his shoulder. captaincy experience, has had the ups and downs, knows exactly what's needed.

I'm heading over for the Adelaide Test, as has become the tradition over the last few years.

I didn't expect to be going over for a dead rubber. Think I'll only go to day 2 on the Friday, and go to the races on the Saturday!

Some interesting performances on day 1 of the Shield games today that could have a bearing on the 3rd test side:
                  Travis Dean 134 N.O. (Footscray's own!)
                  Peter Handscomb 110 N.O.
                  Nathan Lyon 0/88
                  Steve O'Keefe 1/65
Joe Burns 4 (caught down the leg side again)
Matt Renshaw 108 (3rd century in his 12th first class match at just 20 years of age)
                  Usman Khawaja 106
                  Chad Sayers 0/65
                  Adam Zampa 3/92
                  Cameron Bancroft 2
Adam Voges 16 (retired hurt after a nasty blow to the head)
Jackson Bird 1/42 (game still going in WA)
James Faulkner 1/40 (game still going in WA)

The only interest I have in this Test is of the car crash variety and wanting to see how bad we can possibly get.

It's possible we lose 6-0 this summer.

I'd go with probable. But like Cricket Australia, I blame something else, global warming. In years passed we could always rely on one test to completely stuffed by rain, which should've been Hobart. But bloody global warming.

I heard today that Travis Dean was close to selection. That was before his big innings today.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Very interesting. I think Renshaw has more talent but he'd suit what we need.

Bancroft has gone 24 first class innings without a ton. You can't pick him.

The exact quote was "one big innings away from selection"

I think He'd be Footscray's eleventh test cricketer if selected.

Tend to agree about Renshaw. He'd grind out scores when needed.

Perhaps they could look at both Dean and Renshaw with one of them to bat at 3.
