Re: 2018 Tour of South Africa
I'm also betting on a Dave Warner tell-all interview when he gets back to Australia - for once in his career, it will be interesting to hear him talk.
An awful lot of former players (Australians and other nations) are openly questioning the validity of the one-off defence, as well as the "only 3 people knew" story. Lehmann in an interview earlier in the series talked about how important reverse swing was and that he was comfortable pushing the line on what's legal (or words to that effect). The cover-up is always worse than the crime."Look at me mate. Look at me. I'm flyin'"Comment

Re: 2018 Tour of South Africa
That's your decision. But condemning Australia for cheating but not other teams for doing the same also makes you a hypocrite. The ICC did find them guilty, and they were punished, just as Australia has been. They were just treated totally differently by the media and the public.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]Comment

Re: 2018 Tour of South Africa
12 months seems incredibly harsh given that the previous ball tampering incidents in world cricket haven’t resulted in punishments even close to that. It is quite obvious that Cricket Australia want to be seen to be making such a strong stance on it that they categorically avoid any suggestion that they are looking after their own too much. I also think that the negative perception of the team and its behaviour has (unofficially) impacted the severity of the punishments.
One thing that it does hopefully do - is set a new benchmark for how the test playing nations view ball tampering, so that the next time the nations whose players have done it before (like South Africa multiple times) - are involved in this type of incident, hopefully it is treated seriously and severely, unlike how it has been previously.Comment

All we've done is paint a target on ourselves as the only team who's been guilty of ball tampering when in fact we're one of the rarest offenders. We'll cop it forever and a day, both from an accusation point of view, and as being on the receiving end on the field of play from other teams doing it. But hey we've given the self-loathing public something to hate themselves a bit more for, and as Essendon would say- Whatever it takes.Western Bulldogs: We exist to win premiershipsComment

We've enabled this sort of action with our moral posturing and appeasing of the hate filled. Other countries just see weakness now and they'll pile on. The follow on is the ICC will smash Australia in the future for things they'd overlook from other countries.
We may as well sit out of the sport for a while.Western Bulldogs: We exist to win premiershipsComment

You mean like the ICC and its tribunal? Australia is far too virtuous the adopt the standards of the rest of the world.Western Bulldogs: We exist to win premiershipsComment

Magellan has now ended its Australian cricket sponsorship. Three year deal worth $20M. Is the ACB still virtue signalling?
Magellan chief executive and co-founder Hamish Douglass was blunt in explaining why the group had ended its deal with Cricket Australia. The initial partnership had been based on "shared values and reputations of integrity, leadership, dedication and an uwavering customer-first culture".
"A conspiracy by the leadership of the Australian Men's Test Cricket Team which broke the rules with a clear intention to gain an unfair advantage during the third Test in South Africa goes to the heart of integrity," Mr Douglass said.

What they have done is maximise their exposure as keepers of the moral faith, but also saved themselves large licks of money by withdrawing the sponsorship.

I was listening to News Radio about an hour ago. They mentioned Magellan five times inside 12 minutes, not bad exposure on a network that is paranoid about mentioning brandnames at best. They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.Comment
