    Re: Sheffield Shield 2017/2018

Usi had some big performances at shield level given he was in the test team so much.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Really good contingent in the County game this year: https://www.cricket.com.au/news/coun...hli/2018-04-12

Of the Aussies, Shaun Marsh is playing for Glamorgan, Mitch Marsh had a contract but is injured, Renshaw is playing for Somerset and Peter Siddle (Essex), Hilton Cartwright (Middlesex), Travis Head (Worcestershire), Joe Mennie (Lancashire) and Daniel Worrall (Gloucestershire) are all over there.

Hopefully the BBC stream their radio commentaries of county cricket again this year. It's great listening to county cricket being transmitted live while you do other things. The service they offer is pretty sweet. Every game in both divisions covered live, listener can choose which game you want to listen to.

Vics are dominating WA courtesy of a brilliant innings by youngster Will Pucovski who is 160 not out.
They're currently 5 for 366 after WAS was bowled out for 208 yesterday.

Tasmania are dominating QLD and SA and NSW appear to be in a tight contest.

A couple of interesting leg spinners debuting for their states:

Usman Qadir for WA, son of Pakistani great Abdul Qadir. Wants to play for Australia.

Lloyd Pope for SA, 18 year old sensation who took 8 wickets against England in the under 19 World Cup earlier in the year. First wicket was a ripping wrong un.

Hope he's put his concussion issues behind him and can really make a go of it.

Pucovski ended up with 243. Might as well get him in the test team, he couldn't do any worse.

At just 20 years and 256 days, Pucovski became just the ninth player in Sheffield Shield history to score a double-century before his 21st birthday.

Among the elite octet he has now joined are Australia legends Sir Donald Bradman, Ricky Ponting, Doug Walters and Ian Chappell.

The right-hander is the youngest player to score a Shield double-hundred since Ponting posted 211 against Western Australia in Hobart at the age of 19 years and 321 days.

                    Re: Sheffield Shield

I saw some highlights of his innings and he was really giving the bowlers the tora. He likes the tonk over midwicket especially I can see a lot of bowlers regretting drifting onto his pads or down the leg side in the future.

I wonder who the other four players on the 200 list are? Archie Jackson, Clem Hill, Michael Clarke or Steve Smith, ( they have just about every other batting record between them) Ian Craig, Greg Chappel, Doug Walters, Steve Waugh (he was captain of NSW when he was about 12 so he must have made big runs before he was 21) and Mark was never far behind him,
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Found this, which answers all but one:

At 20 years and 257 days, he became the eighth youngest to achieve the mark, just 106 days older than Sir Donald Bradman and behind Clem Hill, Doug Walters, Darren Lehmann, Ricky Ponting, Paul Sheahan and Ian Chappell, all of whom went on to make Test hundreds for Australia.

I hope the batsman who believe they have the ability to play for Australia put some big innings forward in the Shield games.
Quickfire 50's aren't going to get it done or at least shouldn't get it done. Even 100's really need to be turned into 140 plus.

I hate that we have so many of our better cricketers playing limited over games and are not developing their skills in the shield games.

We badly need players who can build an innings with patience

No batsman are really sticking their hands up.

-Kurtis Patterson made 63 out of 159 as a Chris Tremain 5/47 rolled NSW. Youngster Will Pucovski is unfortunately missing through illness
-Joe Burns made 64, QLD are struggling at 7/182

This is to be as expected. It's like no one wants to take the responsibility if putting the weight of expectation on the selectors.

Vic are now 2 for 6.

Lloyd Pope is the best story of the day.

He's an 18 year old leggie from South Australia with a mop of red hair and a wicked wrong-un. He's just taken 6/79 in only his second Shield match.
