Carey should be the future leader of this side and it should be done now.

I think that's a fair point and we couldn't try and match England brand of attacking batting but to me Stoinis was never a strong selection and Shaun Marsh was too close to Khawaja.
Having a couple from Wade, Turner or Darcy Short would have given us a better balance. Finch, Warner Smith and Khawaja were always going to be the players who anchored the innings so while Marsh had form in Australia he was surplus

Our middle order didn't quite click but the positive is that Carey should be moved up the order and perhaps Mitch Marsh comes back as the all-rounder

England are likely winners of the tournament and even they aren't a perfect squad. They often concede 300+ as a bowling unit (Archer's recent inclusion has definitely helped). They do have an excellent batting line-up that goes deep and has hitting power, as well as steadying types in the middle order who can rebuild when needed.
Richardson ended up being a huge loss and perhaps Hazlewood needs to be in the mix as well

100% agree on Ashton Turner. He really should have been selected in the squad and would have added balance with both bat and ball - he was in very good form too.

Hazlewood also stiff not to be selected - would have been very difficult to get away in English conditions

Disagree. He is a talent, but we should let it develop, not overburden it with responsibility

Yep, and the 4 ‘overthrows’ in the last over added insult to injury. England didn’t deserve to win.
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

So the World Eleven finally managed to win a tournament. Congrats to the poms but what a way to win although in the future it will just say that England won in the list of results, it just won't mention how they did it!
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Yes, congrats to England for bringing together players from several cricket playing nations in order to tie the World Cup against NZ.

I didn't hear any complaints when Australia tied with the Saffers in that iconic 1999 World Cup semi-final. So why the bleating about last night from large sections of the Australian media?

Both teams knew the rules going into the final. England ended up benefitting last night, just as we did 20 years ago.

Also, whilst he Poms are a little shameless with regard to poaching other nationalities into their national cricket team, all teams are guilty of doing this. Colin de Grandhomme is a Zimbo and Grant Elliott from the last WC is a Saffer. We've also had Labuschagne, Khawaja, Symonds, Julian, Grimmett and Renshaw represent Australia from other countries - probably missed a few more.

And we've been just as shameless doing this with the Socceroos and in tennis.

None of those Australian players were poached. All came here as kids other than Grimmett who crossed because NZ weren't a test playing nation back then. Don't think we have ever had a Jofra Archer or Kevin Pietersen type player other than perhaps Kepler Wessels, but that was a different situation with South Africa banned from test cricket.

From memory, it was either who finished higher in the pool or who had the better results against each other from earlier in the tournament. If either scenario was in play last night England would have still won.

Australia beat South Africa in the earlier match between the sides in the world cup, so went through to the final on that basis.

I can't see why they can't just have another super over. Incredibly unlikely to tie again. Surely it won't take long and is worth it rather than deciding it on a completely arbitrary measure like boundaries.

Yep, England are more shameless in cricket. I reckon we are just as bad in football and tennis - I remember in the 1985 world cup qualifiers (for the 1986 world cup) against Scotland we brought over Zarko Odzakov from Europe and fast-tracked his Australian citizenship in world record time. We've done it a lot in tennis too, especially with the women.
