Boy Kohli and Shastri looked very salty after Pant's dismissal. They have an aura of 'entitlement' the current Indian team. Supremely talented, but a more petulant mob I've not seen,even at the height of Australia's arrogant swagger.

The difference being is that Australia backed the swagger up with actually winning things.

It is. I heard Chris Lynn interviewed some while back and he said after Phil Hughes death (very close mates) he reflected that a baggy green didn't make anyone better or not. And that life is short, as is sporting careers. So if he's a great T20 player and making millions of dollars, that he's become ok with that and doesn't have any of the tunnel vision about test cricket and the rest of that pursuit. I quite liked his honesty.

This game is over. In the context of the tournament I think Australia over performed given the spread of contributions.

With the bat, Warner, Finch, Smith and Carey can rightfully hold their heads high and regard their efforts as successful.

With the ball Starc and Cummins bowled well. Behrendorf and Lyon prove useful back ups.

Thing is World Cup's are rarely won on the back of a couple of individuals and the truth is Australia had too many passengers:

Khawaja, Marsh, Stoinis, Maxwell, Zampa, Coulter-Nile (with the ball), Richardson. Too much was left to too few and too often it came undone only for the few to claw it back together - today, it was unsalvageable.

Old-fashioned belting. Archer and Woakes had us chasing tail after those first few overs and the game was effectively over.

Hopefully we use this as a starting point to build toward 2023, as the Poms did after the 2015 World Cup.

Warner and Finch won't be there in four years - I'd gradually start 'resting' over the next 12 months and looking at guys like Max Bryant, Darcy Short and Jake Weatherald. In 12 months time, you'd hope we have an established, younger face at the top of the order.

Stoinis somehow did not pick a wrong un' that most people picked from their lounge rooms and hasn't made a run (Shield or International) in a very long time. He'd need a sustained run of form to warrant being picked in the side again for mine.

Maxwell looks to have been found out against the short stuff. He's 30 - will be 34 at the next World Cup - it's not a great time to have been 'worked out'. Ashton Turner might be a viable one to take that spot.

We desperately need to find a spinner too. It's clearly not Zampa, Lyon was good but will be 35 in 2023. I'd throw the challenge to Agar - I think he could be quite a decent short-form specialist.

This was the time for Zampa, Stoinis, Maxwell, Coulter-Nile etc to really contribute strongly toward a World Cup effort. All in their prime with games under their belt. It probably exposed them in the end. We did find a very good one in Carey though.

Stoinis and Maxwell failed to fire a shot for most of the campaign and the technique and application of a number of players was short of the mark.

I also don't think we were bold enough with our selections.

Well done to England, it will take a powerful performance by NZ to beat them.

I reckon our conservatism with our selections and game plan allowed us to make the semi-finals. Guys like D'Arcy Short and Chris Lynn are feast/famine players who come off once every 5-6 matches at best, whereas the likes of Finch, Khawaja, Warner and Smith at the top of the order are far more consistent (last night notwithstanding) and give us a platform to stay in most matches for far longer.

The bowling is simply a lack of depth issue and an over-reliance on Starc as a strike bowler. Cummins is a much better test bowler than ODI bowler, as is Lyon, and the rest flatter to deceive. Jhye Richardson with his skidding action was a loss in English conditions. The spinners as a collective were poor compared to other teams.

England are likely winners of the tournament and even they aren't a perfect squad. They often concede 300+ as a bowling unit (Archer's recent inclusion has definitely helped). They do have an excellent batting line-up that goes deep and has hitting power, as well as steadying types in the middle order who can rebuild when needed.
