How are Spain out? Their GD is pretty healthy or is it that yellow card thing?

I'm not sure, I heard it on the radio as well and was shocked.

They’re not now. But Germany are.
Had Costa Rica win then both CR and Japan would have been in 6 points and Spain 4 but alas CR lost.

What a second half by Japan! That was amazing. I so wanted Japan to win. That last 45 minutes was tension on steroids to the nth degree. I was counting every second. Wonderful stuff.

The Blue Samurai! Knocking off both Germany and Spain after going behind both times. Incredible performance. Love their fans and commitment and great to see teams from Asia doing so well.

Only twice in history has an Asian team made the last 8, North Korea in 1966 and South Korea in 2002 on home soil. South Korea in 2002 is the sole Asian team to make it to the semi final.

Their fans are great. Tears, white knuckles, hearts thumping, pulses racing - faces don't lie. So much for inscrutability - that goes out the window when it's all on the line. Great result for world football.

Morocco tops their group ahead of Croatia & Belgium who finished 2nd & 3rd respectively at the last World Cup

Japan tops their group ahead of recent World Cup winners Spain and Germany

                        this is fantastic

                        What odds Australia beat Argentina?

What a wild run of games and results in those groups.

It doesn't just happen of course, you have to play well and play to your strengths, but there is a real affirmation that if you make it, and show up with the right mentality, you're a chance. Whether through opposition mistakes, sketchy referees, VAR, a moment of magic, fatigue, whatever, if you are there, you're a chance.

Lets add another chapter to this strange WC by knocking over the Argies. I'm still knackered from pulling a full day at work, staying up to watch the game and working all day yesterday before heading to training and finally getting to bed at 10:30PM but the prospect of a result in Sunday's game has me buzzing.

CALLED IN BY VAR, THIS BALL SENT GERMANY HOME

VAR ruling that the ball was not completely out, the ensuing goal saw Japan upset Spain, top their group and eliminate Germany from the World Cup in the group stage, again.

Unless its shown from the direct above angle it's inconclusive whether it's crossed the line or not.
