      Yes it was.

Just seems strange we have to use technology to determine these sort of things.

Part of me says to get rid of all technology in games, whether it is AFL, tennis, cricket etc, but on the other hand games are so fast these days it is hard for the human eye.

I am still on France to win this tournament.

Can't understand why Rashford didn't start the match
. He is a quality player. Always dangerous and takes a good free kick.

Can't see anyone beating the French.

Rapt for Morocco and they deserve it, but man the keeping on that goal by Costa was a mess, from the half-hearted attempt to the lack of awareness. Just awful. On the other end, Bono helps win it for his team with a couple of top notch saves.
That Fernandes shot that hit the bar would have been an absolute screamer too.

So - Now Morocco have made the semi's can everyone please shut-up about how incredible it was for the Socceroo's to lose in the first knock out game? Somehow everyone in Australia is negative about our Athletics team 'cos they can't win an individual event at the Olympics but supportive of the Socceroos who do nothing either...we essentially get gifted an entry into the World Cup every 4-years now - we know it, Soccer officials know it...let's pick a style of play, get better at it and...it's so exhausting. I am not a soccer fan but I want to support the socceroos but damn it's hard. It's like supporting the AFLW - just say nice things ALL the time.

We're a small (population) country. BUT we dedicate a LOT of resources towards sport...we either have excuses or we don't. Personally I think we don't...

                        Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup

Great effort by Morocco. Portugal and Ronaldo World Cup dream is over. They create history being the first African nation to reach a World Cup semi final. I wish them well in their semi final against France.

Croatia another team who keep fighting and find a way. They are masters of penalties winning shootouts against Japan and Brazil.

England out once again this time in the quarter finals. Played well they said against France but if you don’t score then it means nothing and France did that.

Predicting an Argentina v France final but wouldn’t be shocked if the results went the other way either and Croatia and Morocco played off.

I'm going to ask Santo Cilauro to come here and lecture you about how Australians don't understand the world game!

If you believe these statistics which show participation in soccer/ football ~1.26M versus Australian Rules ~620K, then you might think there's a huge opportunity for the game to improve in quality terms in the short to medium term.

Recreational walking is the highest participation sport in Australia. Sport participation statistics show gyms, athletics, and swimming are popular, too.

I'm with you, the FFA need to get its shit together and actually capitalise on the participation numbers, exposure from the world cup and incompetence of the AFL right now.
                          TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

We might dedicate a lot of resources and funding to sports in Australia but I'm not sure it's fair share is making it to Soccer.
I've been hearing that it's very costly for parents to have their youngsters playing soccer especially when compared to AFL and Cricket.

Do we really get gifted a spot in the world cup?

Well. Soccer is an Olympic sport - so there is Olympic funding - and government sports fund is essentially participation based.

The fact that junior clubs charge high fees to play soccer has not a lot to do with anything really...it's played outdoors on grass - it can be played essentially anywhere and councils will build facilities if people in their area are playing...there are a couple of pretty nice facilities near me for example.

Cricket is a LOT of money 'cos there is a lot of gear. Football, rugby and soccer are all much the same - boots, mouthguard and private health insurance....

I'm sorry but I'm so sick of the 'You don't understand, it's the world game, it's so hard' commentary that has been the feature of the game for seemingly every year of my life. If the sport is poorly run and promoted in this country - fix it. If the problem is that everyone runs around with a Manchester Mighty Ducks shirt on instead of a Melbourne Victory/United/whatevs shirt - fix it. It just feels like everyone who has a love for the sport points at the same issues over and again but no-one ever DOES anything. DO something.

And yes, I do think we are gifted a spot in the World Cup. We lost to Japan and Saudi and finished 3rd in our group...but then somehow still got another chance...I mean, we made the finals this year but when Freo beat us we were out. The Socceroos lost once...and again...then STILL got another chance. I know, I know group play and all but how many chances does a team need/deserve??

As for cricket - those guys are in REAL TROUBLE. Crowd numbers are appalling, in fighting is rampant...the idea of someone watching 5-days of anything in 2022 is simply so out of touch with the current generation of kids. What can I tell you...they need to find some solutions or the sport is going to drift away. The AFL isn't immune btw and stupid rule changes are tearing at the fabric of the sport but at least with AFLW they are trying to be inclusive and progressive.
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

So so rapt to see Morocco pull through.

But what is with Portugal's no. 7 walking off at the end? Not consoling his team mates and congratulating the opposite team? In another life he would have made a good tennis player..
