    NBA Thread

    Chicago Bulls

Having an improved season this year, Derrick Rose is a star & deserves Rookie of the Year.

Lost to the Bobcats today though

Rose has improved this year and deserves rookie of the year? Is that a contradiction in terms or what!

He certainly has the hype - but if you look at what Lopez (Nets version) or even Westbrook playing for the 'City who must not be named' you might find a couple of other contenders.

I was saying that the Bulls have had an improved season.

And it being Rose's first season, he should get the Rookie award.

I'm not sure about the rookie of the year but Cavs will be champs and LeBron will be mvp. Although Ben Wallace being out until just before the playoffs (broken leg) will effect us. If every team had a full squad I think the Cavs would be #1.

I've just started watching again now that Channel Ten are showing it on HD (can't get Foxtel, don't ask) after not seeing the NBA for 4-5 years. I followed the Cavs years ago in the Price, Daugherty, Ehlo (?) days. Seen them play a couple of times and they still look somewhat vulnerable to me when they're not playing 100%. Not convinced on them being able to take a series against the Celts or Lakers, but hey fingers crossed.
Other observations, saw Chris Paul play for the first time yesterday in the Hornets vs Mavs game. He's really fun to watch. Jason Kidd isn't half the point guard he used to be either which makes his shooting even more of a liability. Looking forward to keeping an eye on the rest of the season.

Disagree on Rose. Like I said, look at Lopez or Westbrook...I actually think what is happening with Rose and his woeful shot selection right now is going to set him back 5 seasons...How much must he wish that D'Antoni had taken the Bulls gig instead of jumping into that NY train wreck?

This year they have a 29-34 record or something (right now)...last year they finished at 33-49. So, whilst I guess that is an improvement it isn't much of a jump. Remember, they are in the East and playing some terrible teams - Washington have lost the plot, Toronto, New York, Charlotte etc - I am not sold. To me when you look at the team that Chicago have put on the floor they *should* be so much more. Plus, they seem to be playing a wierd offensive style focussed purely on one-on-one match-ups...I dont know what they are trying to do.

What do you think is going on with Tyson Chandler in New Orleans? Traded, rejected due to injury - comes back and playing really well. Can they get out of the first round?

              Bulls 117-102 Bucks

The Bulls grabbed the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference from the Bucks after a 117-102 win over Milwaukee Friday night at the United Center. Ben Gordon led all scorers with 34 and Derrick Rose added 27 points.
              8th spot baby!!!

Back 5 seasons? that is laughable at best, he will be playing All-Star games in 5 seasons.

Rose has won games off his own back this season for us, and was always going to have an inconsistent first season. He needs a good SG beside him, because Gordon can't defend for shit, and i for one will be glad when he is gone.

As for the Bulls, we were always going to struggle not playing a post game, you can't win playoffs or make them, playing a jump shooting style of offense. That's why players like Miller & Thomas were recently brought into the team, so that we can have some sort of presence down low. Since these guys have come into the team, we have already seen improvements from Tyrus & Noah.

We have beaten Denver, Orlando and Houston, but struggle on the road to lower teams, we are definitely improving. If we improve our form away from home, then it will definitely put us higher up the standings.

I don't agree with you saying we *should* be so much more, because our style of play prior was never going to let us improve. We made the finals a few seasons back from great outside shooting, but teams worked us out & when we struggled with FG% we had no one to go down low to.

1/.Playing in all star games is not the measure of success.

Rose is chucking up shots left and right and he simply shouldn't be. Playing in this way is not helping his game - if he continues down this track he will never become the guy you hope he will in the short term...I have visions of Chauncey Billups bouncing around the league for a few years watching Rose play right now. As for getting into 8th spot? Well, that's excellent - gives you a date with Boston or the Cav's in round 1 and we all know how that is ending.

I like Rose - but I dont like the way he is playing at the moment (nor have I all season).

2/.Made the finals a few seasons back? WHEN? The Bulls haven't made the finals since Jordan left. A couple of playoff spots, yeah....but the finals refers to the East vs West series to decide the title.

3/.Tim Thomas is not exactly a post-presence - his main claim to fame is sinking that 3-pointer for the Suns vs the Lakers back in the '06 playoffs...that and QUITTING on Chicago back when Scott Skiles was coaching. And I can't wait to watch Brad Miller (2009 version) try and post up against the rest of the eastern conference. That 12-point shooting average will have everyone quaking in their boots.

Anyway - despite calling this an 'NBA Thread' you clearly want it to be a 'Bulls Appreciation' thread, so I will leave it there.

His numbers for Feb, 15.8 ppg, 6.3 apg, 49.4 percent shooting.

Isn't this good enough for a first season player?

Of course they aren't going to bring us to winning a championship, but they will help our young guys learn there trade.

Fair enough I suppose. But if you look back at the thread, you will see that I:

                            - Mentioned 2 other ROY candidates that you have not acknowledged or commented on.

Rose's numbers are fine - that isn't it. If you like his shot selection (I have mentioned it twice) tell me what you like about it. He is learning really bad habits on a bad team and I am questioning the impact it will have on his development.

                            - I wanted to talk about the league, and as such I asked you a direct question about the New Orleans / Tyson Chandler trade that you haven't acknowledged or commented on. Another poster referenced the Cavs and again you didn't comment.

These things mean - to me - that you dont want an NBA thread, you want a Bulls thread. That's not a crime and like I said, I don't really care. But if you want to talk about the Bulls exclusively, then I am not interested...if you want to talk about the game, well I love basketball, watch a couple of games every week and would enjoy the conversation.
