You also had Nico Clausen and a 20yo Enzo Scifo running around. Their QF against Spain was a great game as well. What about Butregueno scoring 4 goals for Spain against a quality Danish team in the R16 to rout them 5-1?

USA 1994 was all about Romania and Bulgaria for me. They both went on giant killing runs, with Hagi and Stoichkov respectively marshalling their teams - both fantastic players in their day. Bulgaria hands down had the ugliest team ever assembled - Letchkov looked like a bald serial killer and Ivanov looked like a mulleted version of Trevor Marmalade. Apparently their keeper Mihailov had a special hairdresser on site to help him with his rug the whole tournament

Ah yes Hristov Stoichkov - what an excellent talisman. Forgot how good he was and Bulgaria as well - they finished 4th that year. Fantastic achievement for such a small nation (like Belgium in '86 and Croatia in '98). Speaking of 1998 - that was another excellent WC - again the Dutch did well (just missing out on the final - bloody penalty shootouts) - Davor Sukar from Croatia was excellent in that tournament.

And in '86 remember the Belgian keeper Pfaff - he was sensational. Enzo Scifo never lived up to his early reputation (at international level) but yes he was fantastic in '86.

          Excited for Chile,

What's the best way to stuff up a soccer match? Hand the whistle to Mr Howard Webb.

Some diabolical defending by both teams in the 1st half. Brazil lucky not to concede a 2nd on the stroke of half time with another terrible error. Neymar has been fantastic - the less said about Fred the better.

Right about the dullness of the games. The games more attractive to watch now with the counter attacking approach

Brazil pretty damn lucky, almost lost it late, with Pinilla (sp?) hitting the crossbar.

Can't see Brazil going all the way - simply have no striker.

                      Shattered

Didn't make the most of our numerical advantage in extra time. Should never have let it get to penalties

Didn't play particularly well in the oppressive conditions but were able to dominate the last third of the game once Mexico went into their defensive shell. Pleased with the result and generally the tactics, however would rather see them take the game on a bit earlier in the piece. But a win is a win especially against a South American side in those conditions.

Absolutely, very hard to win in them conditions especially up against their keeper. I missed the end to a classic match. Interesting comments from Robben afterwards.
