Sounds like they are still very early in the selection process:
News Corp Australia understands that no approach has been made to Arnold, with the committee of ex-Socceroos and FFA staff designed to vet candidates meeting for the first time late on Wednesday evening.
FORMER Dutch national team coach Bert van Marwijk is the new coach
Not a bad get. He has a wealth of knowledge in Asia and he also has pedigree managing the Dutch national team.
Mancini and Ancelotti would have been ridiculously expensive for the short tenure. Maybe the Lowy's can spend a fraction of their $32bn windfall from selling Westfield on a little marketing and PR for the A League. Instead we have the utter embarrassment of Brisbane Roar wearing shirts with numbers covered up with tape - you wouldn't see that in your local U-8 comp.
The Socceroos have been struggling for form so far in the Asian cup, escaping with a win in a penalty shootout over Uzbekistan overnight. Injuries to Mooy, Arzani, Leckie, Nabbout & Boyle (although Leckie returned off the bench last night) have not helped in the attacking half. Positives have been the emergence of Mabil and Ikonomidis. Next up we face the UAE in the quarter finals.

I reckon that Mabil wil be the player that emerges from this tournament as the generational player we have been waiting for since Viduka and Kewell retired.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Great interview they played last night with Mabil - growing up in a refugee camp in Kenya a game consisted of 1 ball and 100 kids. When he got the ball he just tried to keep it as long as he could as he didn't know when he would get it again. When he came to Australia he had to learn how to pass! You can still see that dribbling ability learned by necessity as a child on the pitch today.

It's a real shame Arzani did his knee because with those two we look setup for our next pair of long term wingers.

Yep he runs around players like they aren't there. That ability to control the ball with his feet, his strength over the ball and that shot like a mule he has when he senses he's within range are going to combine to serve Australian football well for the next decade.

That injury to Arzani couldn't have come at a worse time for us. If I could have any player back from our current injurys it would be Arzani.

Is Graham Arnold part of the problem in Australian soccer? Every time we appoint him as coach of the Socceroos we seem to turn to shit and according to Arnold each time, its somebody else's fault.

They actually played some of their best football of the tournament, especially in the later parts of the first half but as usual couldn’t capitalise on their dominance. Unfortunately the back pass by Degenek was an horrendous error, wonder if his new club are regretting their purchase.
I think we can all acknowledge that Ange was able to make strawberry jam out of pig shit. Winning the Asia Cup and qualifying for the World Cup, with the dearth of top end quality we've had for the last 5 years, is looking awfully good on the resume.
Arnie will cop it for this performance but the reality is that we don't have enough elite quality coming through, and haven't for a number of years. Asia is no picnic either - South Korea crashed out at QF stage as the hot tournament favourite.
